I am thrilled to present Black Diamond's newest headlamp, the rechargeable Iota. It's barely bigger than the classic minimalist Ion, yet has many of the same tech features as the popular, larger Revolt headlamp. At under 2 oz, this is the lightest and most compact full-featured headlamp that I know of. I see this quickly becoming one of the most recommended headlamps for backpackers.
The best "review" I've found is from our UK friends at OutdoorsMagic https://outdoorsmagic.com/reviews/walking-equipment/black-diamond-iota-headtorch-preview/
There has been a lot of news about the Iota, but since it was just released a few weeks ago there aren't any other reviews yet. Please share your experience or other reviews. DannyMilksI was excited to see this introduced and I think it'll be great for the majority of backpackers since it's adequately bright and almost everyone carries a battery pack these days. Where it falls short is night travel - for pleasure or emergency. The beam on high is just bright enough for night travel along trails that are relatively easy to follow, but the battery life is unfortunately really short. The battery pack isn't removable so you're left with waiting a few hours for a recharge. For the way most people use their lights it shouldn't be an issue, but that is an important issue to consider. I'm a Black Diamond headlamp addict I guess, going back to the first original Ion just like the one in your photo (and what a crappy little light that was...haha). I might pick one of these up even though it doesn't meet my light needs. Glad to see this on Massdrop instead of just at REI at the moment.
