I love the blue color option. Will that ever become available again?
delnerdoDelnerdo, The Cobalt IS a beautiful color but unfortunately it won't come up on Massdrop again. We've finished the run of Cobalt, cut all the fabric and now only have a few bins of them left in the shop. I don't expect any to be left by fall this year. We've even got matching foldback mitts in the Cobalt which make for a sweet combo. So while I don't have enough left to post up in a MassDrop sale I've still got some shipping direct from our site - BlackRockGear.com.

BlackRockok I see them. thanks a million!
BlackRockHey man it looks like your original, bala and synthetic are all 27 grams in size large. Am I reading that right ? Is it different fill ? Which is the warmest for when I feel like being really stupid in really stupid weather ? Also really appreciate all the education you gave everyone here. Your hats look wicked. The idea of a down hat sounds a bit unusual at first but you actually made them look good and seriously in the wood I can't think of anything more functional. Are they DWR'd ? Wind resistant ?
EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsWhich hats we talking about? Generally most hats in size large are around 26 to 28 grams. Mediums can be 24 grams give or take. The fabric is usually very consistent whether it's 0.7oz/yd to 1.1oz/yd. Just a slight increase across the weight.
The down is extremely precise between sizing but the headband material can be the difference of a couple grams depending on the weave from the particular bolt of fabric we are using.
If you want an exact weight on a specific hat I can weigh it for you. My guess is whatever specs you are looking at are old and too non-specific from a past drop or a typo on the new website we just launched.
Let me know, Evan
BlackRockHere's what I did : went to blackrockgear.com, selected hat selection, clicked on a bunch of different hats. Didn't see specs on the product page but noticed last image for each hat is a spec sheet. You know what, I bet someone uploaded the same sizing guide for all the hat pics. I'm sure your sizing is consistent, and they probably didn't even realize that some aspiring gram weenie would compare the weight of your hats.
Surely some free QA work is worth the tip of a hat eh ;)
EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsThat's my sizing chart and yes, I upload it with every down hat. People used to care more about the exact gram weight but not lately. So it's just my average weight for the size. It should be consistent across the board. I wasn't sure where you were getting the chart from. If it's uploaded for the Balaclava then the weights are wrong.
I used to list out slight weight variations on our oldest website but we just launched the new site in October as well. I never had time to figure out how to get a nice easy editable table into each page I made yet.
Most hats are very close in weight though if ever you want something really light just email us. I've got some new 5 denier fabric in that's really super light. Paired with the right bolt of lycra and filled with 2-season fill you could easily get a hat in the sub 20g weight for a large.
