@BlackRock I joined the drop, but I'm concerned about outofmemory's comment. I do wear glasses. Is this is legitimate concern? If it is, I'm afraid I'll have to withdraw. Thanks.

mark2906I wouldn't withdraw, I would just go up one size bruddah. I would love a redesign but I can assure you this is worth the price of entry. I am sorry if I made it seem unworthy. I absolutely love both of mine, even the large! My comment was more in response to the XL sizing email/comment quantity. I am an engineer so I am one of those types that redesigns products in my head rather than just appreciating the genius!
outofmemoryI would also like to add that the design of the hat is not exactly a dome. It's patterned to fit the shape of most heads. Over time it also conforms and molds to your own head making for a perfectly round fitting beanie. As for glasses I've actually got more people who like the hat because of how they fit with glasses. I wear my sunglasses about 95% of the time including when I wear my own personal hats. For me the fit over my glasses is just right. The deep fit of the hat gives most people full ear coverage with enough room to shape itself around your glasses.
OutofMemory - When your new hat comes in let me know how it fits for you. We've been redesigning the hat for about 8 years now and have refined its fit, shape and look yet again this past season. If when your hat comes in it doesn't fit just perfect shoot me an email. Maybe we can find you a beanie that fits better than what you are describing.

BlackRockWhat about the recommendation to go up a size? Do you feel that's necessary?
mark2906Mark, what is your head measurement?

BlackRock23.5" around the head, but not covering the ears; 24" if I cover the tops of the ears.
mark2906Mark - You are squarely in a size large. We measure above the ears and not over them. The XL would be so huge it would drop down over your eyes.

BlackRockBlackRock - I'm sorry I never replied to this. The newest design changes were absolutely 'problem solving' with regards to my head, glasses, and ability to 'pull down'. I would retract my previous comment - but I've left it because (as you very well know) clothing sizing can be subjective to a number of different factors and criteria. I can say...as I have in the past, that I'm thoroughly impressed with your product...so much so that I own 4 of your hats (as you may or may not know). While I've never 'ventured to the sub-arctic' it has suited me wonderfully at 'high desert' temps (+20 and up) - I also suffer from 'cold head' (I beat cancer but it took it's toll on my body) - so keep up the good work and I'm very happy with the design changes and the additional stretchability of the headband. I will continue to recommend your products until their stellar quality declines to a point where I cannot - I don't see that happening though! :) Keep up the great work.
outofmemoryOOM - Glad to hear the new hat fits like a champ! I've been making these hats for nearly 8 years now and have never stopped improving the design. I've become a self proclaimed expert on head shape ;) I can call out your head size from 20yds away, hahahah. Amazing party trick really...
Jokes aside I'm excited to push two of our newest pieces out here today at Massdrop. The 10d ripstop weave Cobalt blue hat is simply gorgeous and the 20d siliconized black is simply awesome! We got two bolts of the Cobalt material into the shop (in black and blue) and liked the dark blue material so much we skipped making any into black hats and just lined every Cobalt hat with black so we could make more of them. Like you, with 4 hats, there aren't many of our customers that stick with just one hat and as we've found this new blue is very popular. It also pairs just beautifully with the latest batch of 950 Hungarian White Goose down.
As for shipping on this drop, I plan to get these guys out fast. We've already QC'd and labeled the entire set of both colors for you guys, so when the drop ends I plan to have packed and ready to ship all the gear. That way you guys can get your first BRG hat or possibly your second or third delivered to you in time for your camping excursions!

BlackRockWish you'd make more products. :) Already own 1 of everything you've got on your current product listing. Heck even if it's an 'overly expensive 1 off item that isn't added permanently to the product list'. Good luck in all you do.
outofmemoryMore products! That would be nice for sure. We moved workshops and got a bigger location. I've got a few people on my team now, but for now our focus is still on hats and mitts primarily. If everyone on Massdrop bought themselves a BlackRock hat we might be able to ramp up production to make some new gear. We have done a number of different items in the past. Each year we normally design and build out something new and fun. We did vests for a couple years, then designed our sweet Daypack. One Christmas we made hand warmers and another year I did goose down scarves with pockets on the end.
We've also done super ultralight top quilts but like so much of the larger items I'd love to build they have such thin margins. Overseas manufacturing and our countries overwhelming support of it kills all viability for us to actually compete and expand as fast since we don't outsource our jobs. With so much mass produced junk on the market selling at pennies on the dollar USA made goods can't compete. Last year I saw a $15 down jacket on sale at one of the big box shops... I also see high end gear listed for $60 for a down vest where we can't even source the materials just to make one for that cheap let alone pay for the labor to make it.
What I will say is that the few pieces of gear we make here in Seattle Washington is top notch. Also for every piece bought you are directly supporting our local economy and production by keeping my staff and I employed. It really can't get anymore direct that that. Every hat you guys buy here goes to my staff and back into the business to keep sourcing new fabrics and higher quality down for the next piece you buy from BlackRock Gear. Your money isn't going to a corporation padding their wallets on fat margins while paying rock bottom prices to overseas manufacturing who is taking advantage of their people just to make a buck.
But I digress... Back to work for me. I'll leave you guys to buying up a few more hats! Tell your buddies and your MassDrop friends. I would really love to blow this sale out of the water and get everyone at MassDrop into one of the sweetest hats on the market!

BlackRockWell, I for one, realize that supporting local businesses is the best way to help our country...and even if your 1-off items are thick margin'd you can expect support from me! Stop typing and get back to sewing! :)

BlackRockI just ordered one and I'm looking forward to wearing it in the chilly Canadian winters we get up here. As a question, are there any plans for motorcycle/snowmobile (IE full helmet) type gear from you guys?
SummersWe have and make the "BlackRock-Clava" which is an extreme temp full down hood. The beanies are also excellent for wearing under your helmets. They compress down where it needs to and feels like nothing is there.

BlackRockAlright, cool. Are there any plans to have that as a drop on here at some point?
SummersThe BlackRock-Clava is a pretty heavy duty piece of gear. I'm not sure many ultra lighters are into needing a clava.
