I'm not sure I understand the point of having a lid you can use to burn the pyres on if the manufacturer suggests using a different surface. I'm not knocking the product. I simply fail to see why this is not packaged with the items the maker suggests.
Hi @NicoleMiller ! just wanted to say love love what did with your shop before, got my Patrick stephan bag from you guys. Although it's very run down, i still have it around! great to see u on Massdrop too! gonna give u guys some support! <3
SHiNe.tOWow. That makes me so happy. I had a Patrick Stephan bag too. Excellent choice.
Send me your mailing info and I'll send over a care pack of treasures.
NicoleMiller@NicoleMiller yup! Love that bag. The body of the bag is good except the straps tend to wear out a little faster.
Thanks for introducing me to a whole lot of other brands as well! still have my Julius Jacket from '10 too!
I thought the point of 'disrupting' a marketplace was to come in cheaper/better than what already exists. I can buy 10 packs of incense at this price. I guess you pay for the ultra-masculine packaging. So nobody thinks twice about your manliness while you make pretty smells.
Hi @Calaverasgrande if you didn't know, incense/oils can cost up to thousands depending on the purity(Essence), the mixture and rarity. So $20 is about standard and is readily and easily available and you will smell the difference in say expensive and the cheaper 'oud. So i don't know what incense you are using but it's probably mostly chemicals (as in not natural products).
A note for Canadians: I got hit with a $17.16 COD on my order of two tins ($7.16 taxes + $10 DHL fee). Figuring these out in advance is always a guessing game (not even sure there's an import category for incense!) but if you want this incense (it does smell nice and Massdrop is the best online deal for it), be prepared to spend a bit more at the post office. DHL has consistently been the most expensive shipper I've seen.
ChooseToRideAt the time that I'm posting this, the sampler offered here is identical to the Best 10 sampler on Blackbird's website. On Massdrop, the total cost shows up for me as $31.74 shipped. Putting together a sampler of ten scents on Blackbird's website, or choosing the Best 10 sampler, would cost $34.87 ($30.00 for the incense + $4.87 for shipping to my address).
If you like the selection of scents of scents offered here, get the sampler on Massdrop, because it's a little over $3 cheaper. If you want to be able to build your own sampler from Blackbird's full catalog of incense cones (which includes many scents that aren't available in this drop), go to their site.
Side note: The tins are also cheaper here, and are arguably the real deal in this drop ($29.74 here vs. $35.05 from Blackbird, both including shipping).
qu1mbyAfter missing out on this drop the last time it was posted, I decided to order samples of all of Blackbird's incense pyres from their website, so that I could get a full impression of their product line. Blackbird's pyres are, by far, my favorite brand of incense, at any price point. While House of Matriarch's cones provide a much more noticeable scent with increased projection at a lower unit cost, I prefer the variety of scents that Blackbird offers, as well as their compositions. (I will say, however, that the scent of House of Matriarch's Coco Blanc cones is wonderful and completely unlike anything Blackbird, or any other incense line I've tried, offers.) Of Blackbird's incenses, my top pick would definitely be Gorgo, but I also enjoyed Ai, Muru, Ozo, Scepter, and Sensor.
What stands out to me the most about Blackbird's pyres is their complexity; the somewhat toned-down projection (which is still enough to fill a room for several hours) allows you to appreciate how each scent's composition develops over time (much like a niche fragrance), rather than overwhelming you with the smell of burning wood and a single fragrance note.
As a side-note, another benefit of their subtlety is that Blackbird's pyres are much friendlier to my sinuses than any other incense I've tried.
I got the sample of Gorgo incense in a Bespokepost box and it's a very nice scent...Gorgo btw, is the name of Leonidas queen/wife from 300/Hot gates fame.
Burns complete in about 10 minutes, scent lingers in a medium to large room for several hours
I'm getting the sampler pack to try out new varieties
