some differences between DR500GW-HD and DR550-GW-2CH
Model***Temps var***Power consumed***Cmos size***Make***Vertical***Diag.***Horiz.
500............-20c to 70c....3.3w max.....................2.0...................Unkn.......90...............156........123
550............-20c to 60c....4.8w max......................2.4...................Sony........85...............146........115
As you can see on the 550 it is not only a Sony sensor but increased from 2.0mp to 2.4 mp, an improvement of 20%
All of the angles for the lens were reduced with the 550 which should give a sharper closer image rather the wider image of the 500
Maximum power consumption is up on the 550 from 3.3w to 4.8 watts. Realistically in continuous park mode the 4.8 watts or .36 (4.8w/13.2v) of an amp draw (based on 13.2 volt battery) would completely drain a battery in 222 hours. Battery manufacturers recommend that battery should never go below 50%, thus the 550 in parking mode would be limited to 111 hours maximum (based on 80 amp hour battery fully charged, and in good condition)
The only down side, is that maximum operating temperatures was reduced from -20c to 70c on the 500, and changed to -20c to 60c on the 550 model.
60c converts to 140f, and this is an operating temperature, not a storage temperature.
The only problem I see is that people in the North East might want to disable the parking mode from coming on in the summer time, where parked vehicles will reach the max. temperature of 60c.
If the 2.01 firmware upgrade for the 550 model is any reference as to how they drastically improved the quality of the 500, since this model was first released, then I am really looking forward to this new 550 model running the new firmware
