Do any UK users know if Massdrop declares for HMRC the MSRP of the item or the amount you actually paid?
Say, for example I got just the base model, which is $68.99 with $25 for shipping, or $93.99 total. In GBP, that's £72.
If Massdrop declare MSRP instead, you end up paying VAT on an amount higher than what you paid.

Journeyman10As required, Massdrop states the "fair market value" or normal selling price for all items - upgrades, prizes or otherwise. In the case of Spyderco, it would be the MAP price of any item (40% off MSRP).

JonasHeinemanHi Jonas,
That's not the price that was declared for customs on the knife I received.
I got the standard Delica in the colour I picked out with no upgrades or prizes. MAP for this item is $68.99. The amount that was declared for the purposes of UK Customs was £ 90.76, or $114.95. That's the MSRP of the basic Delica, not the MAP.
I wrote the above because I was worried about what I would end up paying for the knife in the end. A fear which turned out to be valid. My experience with this Blue Box has put me off ever buying another, and maybe even buying something ever again from MD.
What I ended up paying is this: $68.99 knife + $25.00 shipping + $33.00 customs = $127. Nearly twice the price of the knife in the end. And more importantly, $127 = £ 99. A basic Delica in the UK costs < £ 90. So I ended up paying more for the knife than retail costs in the UK, waited more than 5 weeks to receive it, and had to deal with Royal Mail at one point losing it.
There was no benefit at all in buying from MD, even on the basic knife. Especially considering the UK retail value of the Delica is a rip-off in comparison to the US price. And had I actually won a prize or an upgrade, it would have been even worse than it was.
I like the knife, but really this is a very poor way of doing business.

Journeyman10Hey JourneyMan -- Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction, it's understandable and I have reached out to the folks here who manage the details of our fulfillment and asked them to look closely at these numbers. We're sorry this hasn't felt like a worthwhile transaction, but I do appreciate you sharing this candid feedback in a very polite way that can help us to improve. I will do my best for you and everyone else who was affected.

Journeyman10The same thing happened to me on a previous Blue Box. I contacted support (no reply apart from the automatic one) and posted a comment (was told basically «this is how it is»).
I agree that the correct declared value of the package is what I paid for it.

JonasHeinemanJonas, the UK Customs and Excise expect the price shown to be the actual price paid, not some notional value. You might care to confirm this.

Journeyman10I live in Canada and every time I receive something from MD the declared value matches what I paid. If they are doing something different for the UK there's a problem

TriaedCan confirm that the declared value for UK customs was not the value of the knife, but instead its MSRP. 100%. Paid MAP for knife and was taxed at MSRP.
It's one thing to complain about not getting a good Blue Box. It's quite another to end up paying more for the basic option than simply buying the knife at retail in EU/UK.
TBH the whole drop was a joke to non-US buyers. Ridiculous shipping price that didn't even include courier delivery (no thanks Royal Mail), which took 5 weeks. Paid higher taxes than the value I actually paid. Took a bath, basically.
In the end, not a huge loss. I got over it. But at the same time, it's a total failure on the idea that group buying saves money. In fact I lost money. So...meh.
