Got my box. Dimensions were originally 6 x 6 x 6 and 0.4 lbs. but changed to 10 x 9 x 1 and 0.4 lbs. It turned out to be an envelope. Inside was the regular FRN Native 5 in S30V and a Dragonfly H1 serrated...HAWKBILL.
So...wtf? Main knife is S30V not S35VN. Yes, I am aware of the reasons why but I figured that Massdrop had acquired a bunch of the old S35VN that was being blown out of the channel to make way for the replacement S30V. Clearly, that's not the case. I'm not freaking out about it as they're fairly similar steels, in my experience at least. But I am irritated that what I received is not what I had been told I'd get.
As for the Hawkbill, I don't know what to say. That wasn't even listed as a possible prize. I'm happy to have received a bonus but that blade shape is absolutely useless to me. And why do this? Why offer one thing and then deliver something else? Pretty baffling to me. I've done well over 2 dozen Drops and never had a problem, so I'm inclined to give Massdrop the benefit of the doubt.
But still...wtf? Get your sh!t together, folks.

SinNYCHawkbill are fantastic for cutting carpet or linoleum, opening any type of fiber cloth bag, pruning work, garden hose..... several practical uses.

BigburlyIt’s an H1 knife though. It’s made for salt water use. Not a lot of uses around the dock/boat for it. I mean yea... A hawkbill is solid for cutting rope, but I wouldn’t want it as my main marine knife.

Fixallcatch and release if you don’t think you will like it. Somebody out there has a use for it. The extra corrosion resistance is a big plus for lots of people.

FixallExactly. H1 is marine-oriented steel with fantastic corrosion resistance but it's on par with budget steel like 420 in terms of edge retention (with Buck's proprietary heat treat process as a possible exception).

BigburlyI agree: it's useful to someone; just not me. And yes, I will resell it. But the larger point here is what I said above, "Why offer one thing and then deliver something else?" It's a guaranteed way to cause problems - self-inflicted drama.
