For the past 20 years, Blue microphones have been a staple for studio recording, podcasting, and more. Now, the company brings its audio expertise to the world of headphones with the Sadie. This headphone features a 50-millimeter dynamic driver and—like the series flagship, the Ella—a built-in headphone amplifier. Meant to be paired with DAPs, phones, and other digital sources, this built-in amp delivers a respectable 240 mW of power and does away with the inconvenience of needing to carry a portable amp. The amp’s rechargeable battery provides 12 hours of playtime, and the Sadie can still be used when the battery runs out.
In his Sound & Vision review, Steve Guttenberg calls the Sadie "easy to listen to” and says, “for a closed-back design, she’s open and spacious. Right away I was impressed by Sadie’s midrange. Vocals were satisfyingly natural, and when I grooved with my favorite young reggae band, the Frightnrs, Sadie’s bass boost was much appreciated. Not overdone, but the boost definitely adds some extra fullness down there."
Blue Microphones was founded in 1995 by well-known session musician Skipper Wise and recording engineer Martins Saulespurens. Currently headquartered in Westlake Village, the brand has received attention for its high-end studio microphones and USB microphones. Models like the Yeti are wildly popular with podcasters. Moving from its well-regarded microphones, the brand is aiming to make a big splash in the audiophile world with the Sadie and Ella headphones.
