Ayyyy all! I have a black anodized Boker Plus Tactical CAL .45 I got from a similar website to MD about two years ago for roughly this price. If you have any questions feel free to reply to this and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Mine was gritty when I first got it, but I disassembled it (a little difficult to re-install the first time), but it was intuitive and wasn't overly engineered. I shot it with some Hoppes #9 once and it worked great for a long while. I rotate it with my other EDC pens, but with pocket lint comes grit. Meh. My fingers are getting stronger. After the first ink cartridge ran out, the cheapest replacements were like, >$1.50/ea, so I fashioned my own. I grab any click-to-operate ballpoint pen that will fit through the writing shaft and cut it down to the length of the original cartridge, then add a bit of tape to seal off the goopy ink. I've added new ink probably ... a dozen times now, and it works like a charm. I LOVE THE INTEGRAL CLIP, it grabs well, it never falls out of my pocket or my portfolio - warning though, it will not bend, so forget putting it on the clip of a clipboard/through any paper/folder you don't mind getting a 'dent' in. Also, mine is a bit chewed up because I've used it on several occasions as an impromptu bottle opener. I added a rubber gasket so it wouldn't unscrew the writing tip while carried. Loc Tite would work just as well, but I write for a living, so I end up replacing the ink every 6 weeks or so. I also stretched the spring to lengthen it so it's a stronger, more satisfying bolt action. Both DIY bits work great. Overall, I love it. Boker makes two sizes, in anodized aluminum or raw titanium. (This is the smaller of the aluminum ones), It fits well in my hand and I always get comments. (Usually to stop clicking it in a meeting or that it's too loud). Haters gonna hate.

KilsimivSo you want to compulsively click your pen at meetings to the point of disruption and irritation and dismiss complaints about your behavior as "haters gonna hate?" On the other hand, if your pen needed so much modification, I am going to look at other makes and models that don't require so much attention.

PNWNativeThere is no such thing as a necessary modification to a product. People modify things to better suit their needs. What you said is kind of like saying 'Real skateboards require so much maintenance and time putting together, i'll just get a wal-mart board' Or 'Why do I need such an expensive barbell and weights?, I'll just buy something from Bowflex'. 'Why should I build a PC and do all that work when I can just buy one?' 'Why should I get a phone running android when iOS is easier to use?' 'Why should I buy this headphone that is better modified than when it's from the factory' Any headphone is better modified because it suits your wants.

NeenerManDid you read both comments to capture the context? The original comment stated they disassembled, cleaned and lubricated it, added a rubber gasket, and lengthened the spring. At no point did I state that it was a "necessary modification." I merely stated that I don't want to buy a new product that requires this amount of attention.

PNWNativeIt doesn't really require any attention. I understand the context of both comments. As I said, there isn't really any modifications necessary. Modifications are done to products to suit the needs of the buyer and how they think it should perform. Now the rubber gasket thing, That's kinda, eh, yeah, pretty specific. Lubing a pen I doubt is above the ability of a curious nine year old. I get that based off of his comment, you feel that the pen basically requires the maintenance of a rifle. Which, even then is low considering what it is. Understandably you just want something you can open and use without toying with it. I come from a tinkering background and I want to open everything and learn how it works. This product isn't made to be opened, lubed, modified, it's made to simply work. Anyone can really modify anything they please though.

NeenerMan@NeenerMan, @PNWNative ; Both remarks are valid. I'm a tinkerer, and I've added heat shrink, O-rings, spacers, etc. to a lot of my EDC pens. That's just me. I found myself clicking the mechanism quite often when I first got it, and I did receive comments on how loud it was, and confused and fascinated looks after they handled it. I don't click it incessantly to the dismay of everyone in the room. I stretched the spring because I didn't want it to have give, I wanted a stronger mechanism. Also, it should be noted that I add O-rings to all my EDC pens because I'm constantly writing, capping and re-capping pens. The pieces inevitably start to work themselves loose and I don't think loc-tite is a great option on something I break apart every time I replace ink. My comment above was actually an excerpt from a drop awhile ago for the titanium version, at which people were discussing the lubing and grittiness. Mine wasn't gritty when I first got it, but after using as an EDC for a few months, lint and whathaveyou gunked it up. I tried the hoppes #9 once, I haven't done it since. I don't notice grit anymore.

KilsimivI use my pen about 20 times a day for actual work. I use my pen about 100 times a day to click it because I love the noise. Thank for the tips man. Probably pick this up by the end of the day.
