A collaboration between Boker and CountyComm, the D2 Chap serves as both a knife and a money clip. The titanium handle measures 3.3 inches long and just under a quarter inch thick, so it can slide into a pocket with ease Read More
An oddity of a knife. It is what it is - a small light EDC blade not meant for heavy duty work. Blade centering is off and is not a one hand open by any means. But it is light weight sharp and rides well in the fob pocket of jeans or chinos. Nice little blade for EDC if all you want is low weight and a sharp blade for undemanding tasks.
The knife has horrible blade play both side to side and up and down. The centering of the blade is so bad that it rubs the frame when opening or closing. The whole thing just feels flemsy. Totally regret getting it.
Its pretty cool, but nothing crazy.
construction feels extremely light and makes the knife feel fairly flimsy. I'm hesitant to use it for any real tasks as I feel like it would break.
It is a very light weight and comes very sharp.
Nice knife at a decent price point, but there are some disappointing aspects.
Pros - light knife, looks great, decent price, nice lock-up, sharp blade
Cons - comes in a cheap generic box, as opposed to a traditional Boker-branded magnetic closure box. Secondly, (as others have said) the blade is off-center and nicks the liner as it opens, making it a 2-handed scenario. In fact, it's easier to grab the end and pull it open instead of using the nail detent. The so-so build quality and the cheapo box make me wonder if this is a knockoff. Every Boker I own has come in an elaborate box with an Allen wrench tool included. It's nice, but not as nice as the pricing indicates.
On the fence about returning this but return shipping would make it not worth it.
I knew this was more of a gentleman folder so the fact that it is thin and has a bit of flex doesn't bother me. The main problem is that the blade is not centered unless you tighten the pivot screw enough that you can't open the blade easily. The nail nick and strong detent means opening this is a two hand operation. It's also riding on washers and not bearings. I tried cleaning and oiling the pivot and putting a tiny dab of clear nail polish in the detent hole, but it didn't help make the deployment any easier.
On the positive side, there is no blade play when it's locked open and its a solid lockup. Flexing the handle by squeezing it hard doesn't move the lockbar. Its very light and I hardly notice it when carried. The clip is fine with the right amount of tension.
Realistically this is the only D2 blade I could find that is small and light enough for my needs as most seem to start at the 3"+ range. I'm either wearing golf shorts at work or gym shorts at home so I need something light. It's also got a unique blade shape that I'm curious to see how it will handle different tasks. I'll probably keep it but not happy with off-center blade. As others have mentioned, making this a flipper would have made this an automatic keeper, but I'm not knocking any stars off because I knew it wasn't one when I bought it.
