Gross. If I wanted "damascus" knives I'd still be shopping on Touch of Modern. I came here to get away from this overpriced crap. Damascus knives are like the spinning rims of the knife world.

Don't be fooled by this "Damascus" marketing garbage. They don't even list what steel the blade actually is? This is not folded, watered steel, it is a marketing gimmick to prey on newbs. I've looked on 5 different sites and NONE of them say what the steel actually is. "Damascus" is not a type of steel. It WAS an ancient process of folding steel over and over that gave it the "watered" look. If you like it, buy it, but take the marketing with a spoonful of salt. I'd never buy a blade with completely unknown steel.

krixusI have this knife, the scales are pretty crappy and the steel seems mediocre to me although it does hold an edge tolerably well. It looks nice enough but it's not worth more than $20-$30 in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't pay $60 for it.

In terms of the blade quality and durability, where would this stand?

I agree with you about the handle. I'm not crazy about the blade but it is definitely better than the handle. The scales on mine feel cheap and the internals are flimsy.

JebKerminYes, I was disappointed in the overall quality of the build. It *looked* super nice, no doubt, but the durability left a lot to question. I suppose for the price point I'm not surprised. I'm not knocking Boker, I have one of their AK47 autos and it's built like a tank. I just think the execution on this one is not too good.

This is a Boker Plus... But the price drop here is less than BladeHq or Knife Center where you need to spend $99 or more to receive free shipping.
There are a range of knifes from under $20 Opinels to $400 Chris Reeve Mnandi that qualifies as Gentleman knifes, in the $50-$75 range this is a good option.
While I have a Italian slip joint Fantoni Dweller ($125) for a gents knife, someone looking for an attractive budget friendly dress knife this is an option.

This is a nice looking knife but the quality of the build is very poor. The steal is soft, the mahogany handle doesn't exactly match the shape of the knife, and the locking mechanism that you can't trust. I wouldn't use it for anything more than opening letters.

rupertblumeAgreed. Letter opening is about all I ever use mine for.

As Jeetza noted below from the last drop, "It's cheaper on amazon and has free shipping. Anyone who bought one here is a sucker."
Also, name as it is posted here is misleading. This is a Boker *Plus*. The Boker Gentleman is made in Germany. The Boker PLUS Gentleman II is made in China. Not that China is bad, my Urban Trappers are quite nice. But unless this is a special edition they did not mention, no deal here.

received mine yesterday in the mail. while a little smaller than i was expecting (my fault, didn't read the dimensions thoroughly enough) it looks absolutely gorgeous . I'd be a little hesitant to do any heavy duty cutting with it, but it makes a nice carry piece if you're a little more dressed up

This is a nice knife. Very light, though a bit small if you have large hands.

I got one many years ago, perhaps version I? It isn't made for hard work, as evidenced by the fact there is only a steel liner on the side with the lock. Mine, at least, is just a wooden scale on the other side. The description doesn't say steel liners, or other kind, so I'm guessing they still just have it on the locking side. But, not 100% sure...don't base your decision based on my comment, as it was made at least 7 years ago, and things may be different on model II! It's a gentleman's folder, and i don't ask too much of it, just be sharp enough to cut loose threads on my gals dress, or opening an envelope...the tip is indeed thin...maybe too thin, but mine is so light, i rarely notice it, and I dont plan to carve up firewood with it! Mine has a pretty blade, i'm happy with it as a gent's folder, reserved for light work at weddings and such. If something needs dismantling, i have Busse's for that. Lol👍
