Just so everyone knows these are two different model #s. Same name tho. The cocobolo is the first original version with liner lock and the carbon is the next gen with carbon on one side and titanium framelock on the other.
I have the exskelaber 1 framelock and the exskelaber 1 decade edition (linerlock) and I enjoy them both. This smaller version Massdrop is selling is nice too.
If anyone wants an original of these knives check out burger knives as they sell the original designs. They are worth it as they are much better quality than these Chinese made knives by boker. http://www.burgerknives.co.za
I bought a rosewood exskelaber 2 and it had quality issues with it. Too much red locktite so I wasn't able to take it apart to fix the blade center that was off. But to be fair that was not a boker "plus" which iirc these two versions Massdrop is offering are?

anonomousBoker knives are extremely high quality for the price point (many, many premiums knives are made in Asia, including some of the best Spyderco knives). Those Burger knives are crazy awesome, but they cost five, six, ten times compared to these Boker!
The suggestion to look at Burger knives as an alternative is unfortunately not realistic, except to the richest of buyers (who probably would not be looking at Massdrop as a purchase vehicle anyway). This Boker knife here is a like a premium Honda; Burger's knives (I almost wrote "Bob's Burgers") are like Phaetons and Bentleys.

BobrazI have them. If you want quality and you can afford it go with the burger knives. If you have both in hand you will see. The quality on the boker "plus" brand knives are just okay. They are better than most factories or shops in China. But they are no where near as nice and good quality than the original makers knives. No where. I've got to the point that I'm wasting money on most Chinese factory production knives and I've switched to better quality knives for the most part. If you can't afford it, that's on you, find a better profession. Its not like I'm rich or anything but I can tell the difference

anonomousOh, I can certainly imagine there is a tremendous difference in quality, materials, finish, etc. Like a Honda compared to a Bentley or a Maserati, I would suppose. I certainly believe you on this!
It's not that I could not afford it, I could if I wanted to, I don't need to change profession to be able to buy expensive swag. Spending $100 on a nice knife is fun and I can both afford and justify it to myself. I can't justify to myself why I would want to spend $800 on a knife; that would NOT provide eight times the fun of a $100 purchase - that's to **me**, at least.
Now, to be fair, other people can't justify to themselves, or enjoy, buying a watch that costs more than $100. I have a Rolex Submariner, a Tudor Black Bay, an Omega Speedmaster and an Omega Planet Ocean, a Tag Heuer Aquaracer, a Tissot T-Touch. So even thought I can't justify to myself buying a $800 knife, I have sent countless more dollars to the coffers of premium watch makers. I guess that itch was the biggest and more enjoyable to scratch - again, to **me**!
To each its own, then, I guess! :-)

BobrazThat's the same for me, I would rather spend $200+ on a single knife than any flashlight or watch. Its up to the buyer. But I really don't even like kizer quality knives. Reate knives and another 5star Chinese factory are amazing quality on the other hand and I'd buy those without hesitation.

anonomousAgreed, to each its own!
You know, I bought a Sanrenmu knife for $7 (here, this one: http://bit.ly/2bHUTiS) and I was floored by the quality for the price! Even the etched dragon was very well done, none of those cheap surface etching, but deep machining. I was floored to see what they can do at crazy competitive prices!
