The Lucas Burnley–designed Kwaiken is based on a short-range combat and household knife used in ancient Japan. Shaped like a samurai sword—only shorter—it offers exceptional piercing power and slicing ability Read More
I will let someone else spend their money on this knife. Not opposed to buying a knife that costs this much if you're getting what you pay for, but to me Damascus isn't an upgrade, it's a downgrade. So this is a knife that costs $300 and for that you're getting titanium, the prestige of carrying an expensive production knife with a known brand name, and... kinda that's it.
reswrightAlmost exactly my thoughts, the Kershaws with Damasteel are half the price, although no titanium. The materials her just don't justify the cost, and as far as I can tell, this is still a Taiwan-made Boker+, which isn't inherently bad, just not a "true" name brand made knife to most.
ecolemanI’m sure you’ve seen the $750 one they sell made from Damascus forged from armor plate recovered from a sunken Kriegsmarine battleship. They seem to have trouble moving the remaining inventory at that price. Fathom that.
This is the Kwaiken that for some reason annoys me the most ,and it's not Damascus it's Damasteel something I prefer to conventional Damascus! I'm pretty sure it's the price coupled with the plain Jane design (and I've seen some shops anodized the handle in what I'll guess is an attempt to get them off the shelves)! Considering it's the only model that has been readily available since the inception of Boker's Kwaiken I'll guess I'm not alone.
Well, while I couldn’t justify this one, and I’m not crazy about 8”+ knives, I did stumble across this exclusive Copper Mini Kwaiken from GoingGear and jumped at it. It’s gorgeous.
I'm so in love with my 'wooden mirror' variant that I'm not even tempted. Mirror finish vs. damascus/Damasteel...mirror finish every time. Yes, there will be tears when it scratches but I'm takin' my chances!
This is definitely out of my league. I have resisted paying $168 for the Kizer Feist simply because I couldn’t justify the price. I have wanted a clean looking gentleman’s folder for some time now. Seeing this Boker makes me wonder if I ought to just go for it and get the Feist. 🤔
glennacglennac,
I have a decent number of mid-tech folders, many of which I like a whole lot.
But how much I really like my Feist really snuck up on me. A big part of the appeal turned out to be the opening method which I wasn't anticipating liking as much as I do. With a little practice I can open it easily 4 different ways and doing so remains satisfying each time. I also really like its geometric simplicity. It doesn't look aggressive when open (I have enough that do), and with most of the blade disappearing into the frame when closed, it doesn't even immediately jump out as a knife.
While nearly impossible to point out a favourite of my collection, my Feist is absolutely in the running. I'm not telling you how to spend your money, but I am definitely considering a second one. Initially it was going to be another of the same, but one of them I would modify... but now I have seen the potential new 2019 variants, I think it has to be one of those.
