When I took a look at this today, and saw Burnley's name on it, I was reminded of the Obake that he designed and CRKT manufactured. I paid between $25 and $30 for it. Of course, it wan't sporting VG-10. And paracord is cheaper than G-10. I'm done with the rant about the price. Now it's time for the ad copy. Gentleman's knife and a tactical knife? Who are these people kidding. The Gent that I purchased here can certainly pass for a gentleman's knife. Even its name demands it. The Cold Steel Spartan and the AD-10, now those are tactical knives. My Hogue EX-A05 probably qualifies as tactical. And how could I forget the Amare Creator slip joint that I just picked up here. G-10 scales and VG-10 blade that's 4.4" long? Good grief. I must be going senile. I have already complained about this one. Never mind. Nothing to read here. Move along.

This knife should cost $60 max. Not Drop's fault but still a terrible value.

Could we just get a normal kwaiken flipper but with better steel some day? I don't like how often I have to sharpen VG-10.

I'm sure not going to be one of the 5 needed to make this happen. I just don't like blades with compound grinds. $177 is also way too high. I picked up my Cold Steel AD-15 for $150. It has S35VN and the Scorpion lock. Don't believe what you read in other reviews. This is very easy to open and close with one hand.

14themoneyDon't mind the compound grind , but I prefer thicker flat ground tip, and thinner hollow lower blade , so the reverse of this. I get their going for thinner piercing, thicker cutting. My biggest issue with this is imo, way overpriced , Vg10 is a decent steel but $180 is way too high . In today's market with companies like CIVIVI doing Vg10 w/g10 for half the price a lot of these companies really need to reevaluate their pricing criteria.

Knife Center currently has this knife at the same price with free shipping, and you won't have to wait 3+ weeks for it to be shipped. This deal is pretty weak.

I've heard of this problem quite a bit. I have a kwaiken mini and mine does not have this issue.

I have the Ti/Damasteel Kwaiken, and understand your concern. Part of the beauty of this knife is it's thin, graceful outline. To achieve this, the handle is no deeper than the blade at it's heel. When closed, the heel is almost flush with the back of the handle. If you squeeze the knife when it's closed, your skin can make contact with the heel of the blade.
I've encountered this with other knives as well. The fix is to dull the corner of the heel a bit to prevent accidental cuts when holding the knife when closed. I don't recall if I did this to my Kwaiken, or if it came that way out of the box. In either case, no more accidental cuts.

Design of that flipper looks awful, and that blade is a HECK of a lot closer to the opening than other pictures I was able to find on the Internet.
Flipper sticking at 90 degrees is usually a sign of either a bad bearing, bad torsion bar (if assisted), or a mechanism horribly full of lint that needs cleaned and lubed. If it came out of the box that way... yeesh.

This one isn't assisted,so no torsion bar, just really, really stiff action.
First thing I did when I got it was grind down some screws that were keeping the CF from laying flat.....which is what killed my chances at returning it lol
But i tried a bunch of stuff to tweak the action, to no avail.
Thinner oil on the bearings (comes in heavy grease, because they're loose bearings), adjusting the pivot tightness (immediately rubs the liner at anything less than 100% tight), bending back the lock bar (did nothing).
Last thing left to try is drilling out the detent hole, giving it a little ramp to release easier....but I haven't bothered opening it up again, since I'd still then have to grind the heel and figure out the stiffness even if I get the detent to lighten up. So, it just sits in a box looking pretty 😒

Has anyone else here who owns a Kwaiken had any issues with the heel of the blade being exposed when closed?
I don't have this exact model, but I did cut the hell out of my finger on my carbon/copper Kwaiken from BladeHQ... And since they all seem to share the same baud dimensions, just wondering if it's at all a common trend?
(had other issues too, but that was the biggest concern as it's a major safety issue)
It doesn't literally stick out past the handle, but it's close enough to flush that out takes almost no pressure to make contact before the surface of the spine

I had the same problems you speak of with my kwaiken. Have you contacted Boker directly? Very friendly customer service over at Boker. They did not really question me on it as it was a first production run. I sent my knife in and boker came back and apologized for the action and the blade exposure issue. They hand selected one from their warehouse. I absolutely love my kwaiken now. Night and day on the quality. I know it never leave the quality dept. with issues but I am a quality engineer and I am well aware sometimes even the best quality programs and iron clad procedures have their slip ups.

Rolf123I kind of ruled out the idea of returning it after I ground down some screw heads that were causing the CF scales to not sit flush.....before i realized about the issue with the bearing races and the blade exposure 😔
Lesson learned, spend more time inspecting before starting to fix anything
