Fans of Lucas Burnley’s Kwaiken flipper will instantly recognize the Kwaiken G-10 steak knife. It’s got everything the original Kwaiken does, sans the liner lock and flipper Read More
I do have a knife designed by Burnley, the Obake by CRKT. Granted, the steel is not as good (8Cr14), but at about $25, I can't complain. About the same size and shape. It has a very functional Kydex sheath. There is paracord on the handle.
I'm sure the price went up when MD realized that these were made of an imaginary steel. Too bad the price increase isn't imaginary. Come to think of it, if I need a steak knife made of a high quality steel, I'm sending the steak back and hope they do better with the replacement. Sheesh!
I think the joke was them telling us they still intended to keep the same business model offering discounted group pricing after the brand/image change 🙄
ecolemanYeah it's $45 more this time. At the old price it seemed like a great EDC fixed blade to make a sheath for, at sixty apiece I don't see the value over a Guardian 3
I love the design of these.
I think 75 for two great looking Burnley designed knives in a purpose made Swedish steel is a real steal.
Wouldn't mind a small leather sheath for boot carry either.
Great job Massdrop.
The problem is all inside your head, he said to me

Who would only want 2? And even if you purchase two sets, it becomes inconvenient to store them in separate boxes. The box looks cheap anyway but since it's a "feature," I'm sure it's somehow increasing the price.
I have always thought that these were overpriced. I like Lucas, he is a great guy and I own one of his custom knives as well as the first generation of the Boker Kwaiken, but I always wondered where they got their pricing for these.
I also think they did get sold in 4s.
As for the steel. 14C28N is a very good choice for this application. It is very very stain resistant (very nearly the same as the "rust proof" Nitro-V for you guys that know steels), but holds a pretty good edge. Yet it is soft enough that it won't take any chipping damage from hitting bone, or worse, your plate.
If I could get 2 for 50 bucks I would happily add them to my cutlery drawer and use them daily without issue. But at the current price I think I'll continue to pass.
I could think of a number of uses for this knife other than cutting steak (as in: whatever any other fixed-blade knife might do), and I wouldn't have a problem paying $35 for one--but I just don't have a need for two, identical knives, cute though they are.
Pity!
