I have a Boker Kihon, a Lucas Burnley design, with a D2 steel blade; it's the BladeOps exclusive version with a marbled-carbon front handle, and I love everything about it, but esp the blade. Boker, I think, does an excellent job with their steel treatments. That Kihon is my favorite D2 blade I own, so I was excited to see this drop...until I saw it's the same price as the store whose threshold I could literally cross in about 20 min if I stepped out of my house right now and walked there at a steady, but leisurely gait.
No wait for shipping and no worries about the infamous Boker QC, or its lack. I'd get to hold the actual knife I was going to buy; if it later had any problems I could simply return it to the knife shop, where they would fix it, replace it, or send it to Boker for repairs at no cost to me. But that almost certainly wouldnt be necessary, because they shop guys will usually pull from the wareshouse a dozen + individual knives of the model I'm going to buy, and we test them out to find the best one.
I don't mean that as boast, but as a set up to the complaint: I hate it when MD prices aren't any cheaper than my local knife shops, because thats supposed to be the benefit of buying thru them. But I never buy a non-MD produced knife without comparing the price to my local sellers, and the fact that it's frequently the same price is lame. I know there is the MSRP and that is pretty inflexible, but if Boker or Spyderco or whomever won't give even five bucks discount to bulk-buying MD customers, I wish MD would tell them to bigger off.
