aaronjiHave you read the description in detail? It says: The Magnum is all damascus everything, from blade to handle. So I guess the answer is yes.

BobrazYeah, thanks. The problem is that there are both carbon and stainless forms of Damascus steel.

aaronjiAh! I understand the question then! My bad! I did not get that the subject of the question was the type of Damascus. I thought you were asking if everything was Damascus (which it is).
I assume carbon Damascus is prone to rust, but not the stainless steel version?

aaronjiModern damascus steel cannot be entirely stainless. What you're getting is a carbon steel / stainless steel mixture. This is pattern welded steel, as the technique to make real Damascus steel was lost over 250 years ago.

Raine342Well, I am no expert in metallurgy. There are several producers, though, that make stainless (modern) Damascus. Devin Thomas in Nevada and the Swedish company Damasteel are two that are pretty widely used for knives...

Raine342Modern "damascus" can be all stainless no reason it has to be part mild

Raine342I really don't know what you mean. Semantics aside, Devin Thomas, Damasteel, Chad Nichols, and others offer stainless Damascus (or modern Damascus or pattern welded) blade steels. A quick google should do that well enough...

aaronjiThank you for repeating yourself. That was very non-informative.

Raine342Right. So you have nothing and there are, in fact, stainless modern Damascus blades. Thanks for the confirmation...

aaronjiWhat is that I have nothing of? Try arguing one point that has relevance, and stop repeating yourself and jumping around because you can't prove something.

Raine342Very true, which they do not add in the description. True Damascus is long gone, there are places where they believe they have come close to the ancient recipe, however with modern technology there hasn’t been a real push or need besides those who enjoy the aestethics.

SeadonkeyLoveSo most of us, lol. I would like to know what kind of steels were used. I hate it when it just says "damascus".

Raine342Well my experience with Boker and Boker Plus isn’t vast, but the German company has been known to cut corners on QC. Now that was years ago and to be fair I haven’t handled any recent knives of theirs. I’m willing to give them a chance and almost got in on that front flipping folder they offered in Damascus a couple weeks ago. *Sorry for the capitalization my phone thinks I’m talking about the city and I’m too lazy to fix the autocorrect.
This is being said, I’m sure it is the cheapest version available as resourcing material to Boker. All research from online of Boker Magnum line and Bladehq has only lead me to this no -descript answer of 71 layers of genuine Damascus steel. 🤔😑
So... they are intentionally not stating it or there is some in-house secrets they are not wanting to delve into. Personally, the Damascus Spyderco uses in their discontinued Endura was very nice. Pictures below:

SeadonkeyLoveYeah, that's what I've come up with too. It really looks like they're trying to make a product that looks "neat" to the uninformed tourist. I'm skipping this one.

Raine342I would think a true true Damascus blade would be $$$$. This is the classic tale of being it is what it is (Shrug & grimace).
