I assume carbon Damascus is prone to rust, but not the stainless steel version?

aaronjiModern damascus steel cannot be entirely stainless. What you're getting is a carbon steel / stainless steel mixture. This is pattern welded steel, as the technique to make real Damascus steel was lost over 250 years ago.

Raine342Very true, which they do not add in the description. True Damascus is long gone, there are places where they believe they have come close to the ancient recipe, however with modern technology there hasn’t been a real push or need besides those who enjoy the aestethics.

Raine342Well my experience with Boker and Boker Plus isn’t vast, but the German company has been known to cut corners on QC. Now that was years ago and to be fair I haven’t handled any recent knives of theirs. I’m willing to give them a chance and almost got in on that front flipping folder they offered in Damascus a couple weeks ago. *Sorry for the capitalization my phone thinks I’m talking about the city and I’m too lazy to fix the autocorrect.
This is being said, I’m sure it is the cheapest version available as resourcing material to Boker. All research from online of Boker Magnum line and Bladehq has only lead me to this no -descript answer of 71 layers of genuine Damascus steel. 🤔😑
So... they are intentionally not stating it or there is some in-house secrets they are not wanting to delve into. Personally, the Damascus Spyderco uses in their discontinued Endura was very nice. Pictures below:
