Anybody out there have any experience with this crash tool? I have a small axe collection going (a few dozen) mostly for throwing but am finding a real explosion in crash / tactical / combat axes out there. The price on this one seems good. SK5 seems like a decent shock-resistant material choice... I’ve tried and owned axes with materials like D2, 1050, A2, 4140, S7, and (believe it or not) titanium. It is an exciting frontier for knifemakers and knife companies to bolster their sales.

Axeguyno experience with this particular hatchet. Just FYI for someone into axes and particularly crash axes, Knifeworks had a good deal on the benchmade krelian forged crash axe made of 4140 for $150--I picked one up two months ago. For a thrower, I bet this hatchet would stick well due to the forward cant of the head, but seems a little expensive to use for just throwing. I personally really like one piece construction concepts for hatchets, but I also like the tradition methods of attaching steel to wood and the weight savings it affords in the larger sized tools.

lobsterThank you for the advice; I will check it out. I am a big fan of integral axes as well but feel—as you do—that it is hard to deny the benefits of a stable wood handle. (Most of my axes are hand-forged traditional designs or antiques.) Also, wood seems to dissipate the shock of impact better than metal—which can crack, etc. I agree that they are expensive to throw but that’s why the Universe gave us Lynn C. Thompson: Cold Steel gives us cheaper iterations of a number of different designs that hold up well and are far-and-away less expensive than, say, a Gränsfors Bruk Francesca... For throwing (more than once) I trust Cold Steel way more than the shoddy and potentially dangerous low end products you see all over Spamazon...! Cheers and Thanks again!
