JordanLewisThe place you can sometimes run into trouble is that customs agents are like judges - they apply a set of general rules to specific situations. So, an overzealous officer might see a legal assisted-open knife as a 'flick knife' - or, what I've heard is more common, be quite aggressive in trying to 'gravity-open' knives, which can work if the detent is not strong enough or the blade is too heavy (at the tip). There are laws, and then there is enforcement. Once can be planned for, the other...well, not so much.
JonasHeinemanThanks Jonas, Australia seems super strict about this stuff. It hurts, but I may have to pass on this, don't want to leave A$130 up to a customs officer. I'd love to know if anyone's going to take the risk and try shipping to Australia, and see if it comes through for them.
JordanLewisInformation about this is most often published by each state...region? province? ah, territory! This is one of the better pieces that I've seen - they even have pretty pictures!

What's hard is that the description of 'flick' knives could maybe be interpreted to include flippers, but every reference that I've seen is to automatics. Long story short, members have not reported seizures on knives with manual flippers to us very often.
JonasHeinemanYup, that definition is what's holding me up. It's weird because there are online stores in Australia that sell flippers, but they probably have an import licence, which I do not have.
KaozerThanks! haha, I'd up vote that 100 times if I could.
But... when you say "I know how mean they can be", have you had something taken?
Sorry, I'm a tad paranoid about it not getting through.
JordanLewisWell im in canada and i had an overzealous custom officer manage to "open using centrifugal force" a spyderco tenacious. It wasnt that much of a deal, i had bought it on amazon and got a full refund. But yeah they can be dicks. If i were you id ask the massdrop team to wrap a zip tie around the knife. From what ive been told, atleast in canada, theyre not allowed to cut the zip tie.
GTO461I live in NSW and have placed an order for this knife. Cutting Edge Knives have Kwaikens on their Aussie site. I ordered a Spiderco Paramilitary a couple of years back and after some delay and inspection by customs it came through, would be a real bastard if they intercepted the Kwaiken, I,m pretty confident.
