Great looking knife! My 9yr old boy keeps telling me he wants a Benchmade Griptilian for Christmas, but I think I found a worthy alternative here for him since Daddy is waiting on the Massdrop Exclusive S35V to arrive. I've created a very young knife knut that is crazy for all of Dad's blades! He asked me the other day if he could have my Gold Anodized Titanium Zero Tolerance 0900GLD! Fat chance, but I did tell him that he will be it's next owner someday. BTW, this is great hobby to share with a couple young boys!!

BudgetAudiophileI agree to some extent, but you really should be considering knives with safety switches in place. You really wouldn't want to risk your boy's being cut - and worst (because I'm sure you've educated them on common sense knife safety) you'd have to then be sure to educate your children on the dangers of letting their friends play with their knives. I have grown ass men as friends who end up cutting them selves using spring assisted knives. It sounds funny, but really, it's not so far fetched. I am not telling you how to do things, I'm just perhaps raising the point. My father bought me my first swiss army pocket knife at around 9 years of age and I did manage in cutting myself almost out of curiosity of the sharpness. Never the less, awesome hobby and I think it's really cool you're getting your sons into something you also are so passionate about - just be safe! :)
BudgetAudiophileIt's all good! My oldest is very adept at handling knives and ridiculously knowledgeable. My 7 yr old is just getting his feet wet. With that said, neither of them keep possession of their knives. We'll go out and tool around with them and Dad is always assisting and monitoring. Your points are very valid and I agree 100%. My motto, that I make them say before any cutting session: Respect the Steel! I tell them these can cut your fingers off and we're off to the hospital, so no sugar coating on the dangers inherent when handling sharp tools. My oldest actually surprised me how well he took to handling and respecting the steel. He knows all the jargon and what it means, but once again, he only gets his knife when Daddy is there to assist. Fortunately, they respect that and obey because they know they will be shut out!! By the way, I too have good friends, grown men, that do not "Respect the Steel" and cut themselves almost immediately. This after demoing the proper use of said knife. It's awesome knowing that as my boys get older, I will not have to worry about that!!

BudgetAudiophileThat's great to hear, honestly this in itself kinda grants you a father level 100+, as long as you plan to give them the entire collection when they are of age ;) You've given me some good insight into fathering, I am not a father as of yet - but I can tell you, you're doing it right. That's awesome man, keep up the clever fathering.
bubahI appreciate it dude! It's awesome to share what you love with your kids! They both tell me that they love all my "toys"! You should see the faces of the staff at Cabela's when I take the boys to look at knives! They get a kick out of seeing young boys way into knives!!

BudgetAudiophileStart em' young, raise em' right!
A Griptilian or the Trapper seems like a great gift! I'm happy to hear that he has such aspirational taste to want to start carrying a ZT.

BudgetAudiophileWhat your boy needs is a zt 0350 because it is about the same price as a griptilian if you look on ebay, and he'll get a lot more use out of it. The benchmade griptilian is a fonominal knife, but the 0350 is so much more blade for the money!! You get G-10 for handle material other than polymer on the griptilian. Also, S30v with Tungsten DLC other than 154cm-I'm not saying that 154 is bad, but S30v is a bit better. Lastly, they both have stainless steel liners, but the ZT has much much thicker one's. I personally think that the griptilian is one of the best knives out there, but you really have to think- what am I getting for my money??
