the description says "Utilizing a cageless design, the system features loose ball bearings arranged in a small groove around a pivot bar" BUT then the pictures show a caged bearing... So which is it? Cannot be both...
BurgemanGreat question @Burgeman -- Bearing cages float between the inner and outer races, separating each ball from the others, whereas IKBS utilizes this...crown? I don't actually know their name for this part, but it houses each ball in addition to keeping them in position and provides the surface against which the bearings rest. For more info about IKBS, you can check out their website: http://www.ikbsknifetech.com/
JonasHeinemanTraditional trappers have loose bearings though and you are picturing caged. so which is it, will these be made with the caged bearings like pictured, or will they be the typical Boker lose bearings?
BurgemanAs far as I know the recent model UT's have caged bearings like pictured, so I doubt these will be any different. The older ones had loose bearings like most of Boker's knives, but sometime recently they switched, around the same time that they upgraded their original titanium only model to the satin blade and longer flipper of the scaled UT's.
Edit: Those might be bearing guides, or semi-cages (hold the bearings in place relative to each other but still require outer surfaces to retain them). I'm not sure if they alone retain the bearings, anyone able to enlighten us?
