HEADS UP, Canadians. This is very important info if you are a part of this drop:
I have just found out the hard way that the CBSA's Prohibited Importation Unit is now classifying all "flipper style" knives as prohibited items (incredibly wrong, in my opinion) and as such is seizing any of these they come across. I spoke to a CBSA officer after my (very expensive) Zero Tolerance 0450 was seized in Mississauga, ON. They cited a Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) decision, AP-2012-072 "CBSA v. R. CHRISTIE", and advised that an appeal would likely be rejected. Begrudgingly, I will be returning that package to its sender.
HeliBifafter looking up that case, they mention a karambit (which is legal in canada) and an automatic knife which is illegal. since this knife has the flipper on the blade is perfecly legal. i would also like to point out that this case was closed in 2014 and since then i have purchased maybe 4 knifes that had flippes and all went trough without issues. not to mention all you have to do to get the knife if they hold it is to proove that those knifes are allready in canada. The regular urban trapper is not hard to find here...
HeliBifBelieve me, you're preaching to the choir. But from the reading I've done on the experiences of many others, the CBSA have gone off the reservation on this one and are playing their own game.
I have neither the time nor financial resources to challenge them in court.
The (bs) reasoning told to me on the phone was since the flipper tab passes through the handle during deployment, they can consider it part of the handle.
