I'm still excited for this knife. This is my first venture into a higher end EDC knife (before this I've only ever had cheaper knives like Opinel's and low end Gerber's). Anyway, really excited to see if I can tell a difference in the quality of the steel and what not. I can see how this knife thing can become an obsession.
sknabnojIt becomes an obsession quickly... I got into this hobby less than a year ago and allready spent over 1000$ on it. As far as seeing the difference between an opinel (love those btw) and s35vn, well you will probably blown away with the edge retention.
sknabnojThis particular boker model is known to have some lockup issues. It's more of a light to medium duty knife as far as I can tell. More of a modern gentleman's knife.
Now when you get into zero tolerance, or Benchmade knives you start to notice a huge difference in quality. Both of my zt's have perfect lockups, and are built like tanks.
As far as s35vn, it will make you never want a Gerber again, as long as they do good on the heat treat. Do not use a grinder or power tools to sharpen it, as the heat will ruin the temper of the steel.
