The books were loose in the box (which was crushed) with a couple of sheets of sealed air and a packing list. They have been banged around in transit and it shows, especially on the corners of the covers and the tops and bottoms of the spines. Heavy items need to be immobilized (e.g. clingfilmed to a piece of card that fits in the bottom of the box) or securely padded on all sides to minimize damage. Simply tossing them in unprotected with some filler and hoping for the best is not good enough.
The books themselves are fascinating but I expected them to arrive in better shape than this.
