I have a waterproof arc’teryx pack with the rotating back plate on the harness. It’s really comfortable but heavy. Is it worth getting a much lighter pack?
Melbournewoman
It really depends on what you are carrying and where you are hiking and what conditions you expect. I sold my Osprey but kept my two Boreas (45L and 60L) and my Gregory (85L). I almost never (just the once) use the Gregory as the lighter Boreas are more than enough.
Just an awesome price for an awesome backpack (I have two, the 45L and 60L - which seem to be almost the same size).
I submitted a query while the drop was active, to Boreas, using the only contact info that was available at the website, which was an email address. I received a reply just now; Hi Brett, Thank you for your email. Boreas Gear is now under new operations management, effective immediately. whats the warranty on this product?
Looks nice, but disappointing that they're out of medium. I'm guessing it's the only size anyone is actually buying.

I'm 5' 10" , 40" chest and 38" waist. I use the L and from the size differences I've seen from Boreas there is very little between M & L. It's an awesome backpack BTW. I have both the 45L and 60L (again virtually no difference - just a little longer neck I guess gains that extra packing space - but the rest of the bag seems identical) and would buy another Boreas in the blink of an eye, so many nice little, innovative, touches (I had Osprey and Gregory before).
I want a medium but it says sold out? were they not offered in this drop?
yes it can be. I have this exact model same color and also the black one. Both can be rerouted or hidden.
Does anyone know if the strap over the water bottle pocket can be rerouted beneath the pocket? Also is anyone familiar with the fidlock system? That's a little something that I found while scouring for info on the Boreas site... Also the video is very helpful, but doesn't cover everything. What is a ribcage? Apparently it has something to do with the horizontal shallow v-shaped seams on the front panel.

If it's anything like the Buttermilks pack, you can reroute it, though it's only so useful in my opinion.
It is. I had both and sold the Buttermilk.
So no external straps for foam sleeping pads, huh? That's a deal-breaker :(

It has the hidden daisy chains which run right to the bottom of the front of the pack. You could easily utilise these to attach a pad.
that Truckee Green colorway is kind of awesome.
Is this pack top-loading only?

Yes, it's appears to that way. I'm also basing that on the Buttermilks pack that I have.

Yes it is. However if you need to access stuff quickly then there are a couple of ways to do it a) there are 3 pockets in the top lid. One inside for valuables and two large ones outside that take a ton of stuff b) utilise the superb stretchy pocket on the front, it's huge - I had a DSLR with a very large 15-30 lens in there and at other times waterproof trousers/jacket and extra gloves and beanie, all at the same time. The two stretchy side pockets can easily take 2x1L bottles in each at the same time too - so could be used for other gear. There are also two very large belt pockets which take all sorts - half a dozen power bars, compass, my mobile, my In-Reach and other assorted crap, all at the same time.
Can anyone suggest how I might figure out the best size for me? I'm a 5' 6", 140 lb female with narrow shoulders. I'm guessing small...?

Thanks for this!

I am 5' 7" and measure out at about 18" for torso. I had a Buttermilks in a medium and it was too long so I gave it to a friend. I'd go with the small unless you are long-waisted.
