Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Boreas Topaz 18L or 25L Day Pack and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 5/30.
We will keep the group updated throughout the fulfillment process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 5/23.

Dang. Out of the green 25L. Guess I'll wait until next time.
I have several Flash 18's. It's a great bag. Nice lightweight day pack that can be rolled up and tucked into a suitcase, duffel bag, or larger backpack for travel.
Regarding the waist strap, the main benefit of the Flash 18 waist strap is to keep if from bouncing around if you are running or sprinting.
It's not designed for bearing and distributing weight. Which makes sense, as the amount of weight that the Flash 18 can handle before it falls apart is lighter than what you'd need a waist strap for.
So unless you are running or sprinting with the Topaz, I don't think you'll miss the waist strap.
folktrashThe 25L specs are at the bottom of the drop page, and I'll see if we can add some photos of the 25L option (though it likely will be after the weekend) @folktrash
I have the REI Flash 18 and love it, but it's far from perfect. I've had it stuffed to the gills and it still wasn't heavy enough to need a hip belt, so I've removed mine -- don't even need it. Flash 18 uses a drawcord closure, which means I have to pull it all the way or almost all the way out and then all the way back each time I open the pack and close the pack. Topaz uses a cliplock that I basically adjust once related to the amount in my pack for a particular outing -- then it's unsnap/snap each time I open and close. I don't see any way the drawcord arrangement on the Flash 18 could ever be waterproof. For waterproof, the rolltop arrangement is the way to go. I'm keeping my Flash 18. I'm looking at the Topaz 25 for more room.
The REI flash 18 is about the same price (considering shipping on this), only 10 ounces, and includes a removable hipbelt. I don't see how this could possibly be considered a superior buy.
andymmetzThe REI Flash 18 is a great pack, for sure, and a super value. Thanks for making a solid comparison. I would say the 3 major differences are that the Topaz has a wedge design with a larger opening on top, it has a roll-top closure, and it looks different. I like the roll-top design better as it allows me to expand the volume of the pack as needed. I also like the look of the Topaz better (I think it has a less 'techy' look) but that's my personal taste. I use the Topaz for a travel carry-on and a commute pack. I do agree that the Flash 18's removable hipbelt is a nice feature that the Topaz is lacking. @andymmetz
