So this is MSRP plus shipping? So why shouldn't I go to Etsy and buy directly from Bourbon Moth? Oh that is right, because these have no stain on them like the ones on Etsy. That is one less step for the craftsman in making them. So same price as Etsy, but cheaper for the craftsman to make. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Unless the price changes, I think I will buy from another craftsman off of Etsy.

LibbyHi @Libby,
As a small business owner and Etsy seller, Jason at Bourbon Moth Woodworking doesn't have an MSRP like large vendors that we typically work with. Quilters have asked for ladders and this one offers the best craftsmanship and value for the price that the community has come to expect while also allowing us to support a local craftsman. Shipping on the item is due to the oversize scale of the ladder.
You're correct that there is no stain but having a natural finish actually requires the wood to be sanded and prepared for to a greater degree so that it's smooth and not rough like a piece of unfinished plywood. Finish is certainly objective. If you find another stain or price point that's more to your liking elsewhere, that's awesome.

LibbyI agree that this drop doesn't offer huge savings but the shipping on Massdrop is $5.00 less than it is on Bourbon Moth's etsy shop and $10 less than on their direct retail site so it is a little bit cheaper here. Also, it's nice to see Massdrop featuring and supporting small scale US artisans instead of just sourcing a crappy product that was made overseas so they can offer a lower price.

LibbyHi everybody! Thanks for taking the time to post your constructive feedback here- It's important that we hear from you and help cater the Massdrop community to meet your expectations.
We searched far and wide to find a high-quality low priced quilt ladder (we found many in the $120-$150 price range), purchased multiple samples, and were the most impressed with Bourbon Moth's product. We believed that the discounted shipping price, as well as the exclusive finish would represent sufficient value to our community.
We really want the drop to succeed. I've spoken to our marketing department and they have agreed to cover the cost of shipping on this product as a marketing promotion, which means the total cost in the US is now $69.99 flat.
Thanks for coming out and showing your interest in these beautiful ladders, we hope that you consider joining the drop!
