Money grubbing, so far I have seen more items being sold for more than the MRSP "as if it were a deal"??? Why pay $75.00 more for the same thing somewhere else? I guess the truth is, there are people that will not take the time to find a better price (we all know how strenuous and dubious a task like that is...jk) and will pay whatever looks like the norm. Guess what folks, this is not the norm. Massdrop is skimming way too much off the top. Limited to 90 pieces? At this price point, the only deal is for Massdrop to lure in 90 suckers.

theglobesurferYou're probably looking at one of the basic n690 versions of this knife. I've got the Guardian 3 with both the budget 'EDC' handle scales and sculpted carbon fiber, which are shaped like the options for this drop. The sculpted handles are an upgrade, and so is S30V.
This is also the Guardian 4, not the smaller 3, which you can get in M390 or Vandis 4 for around $170.

OmniseedYou make unnecessary assumptions Omniseed. We are all very happy that you have a Guardian 3, sorry, 2 Guardian 3's...but no where in my post did I mention a Guardian 3. I referred to the availability of the same Guardian 4 with micarta (black) handles for less than $145.00. This is a fixed blade knife and depending on how the N690 is hardened, it can be as good if not better than S30V. The Vanadium in S30V offers an added wear resistance to salt water, so if you plan on using your Guardian 4 for diving, this is a great option...but for virtually all other purposes, the N690 is a sufficient choice. There must be a reason Bradford chose N690 in the first place...don't ya think? All that aside, the post was really geared to providing awareness of Massdrop's unnecessary gouging of the public, or a fleecing if you will. The whole idea was to get masses of people to purchase items and the quantity would dictate a lower price without the need for a distributor or wholesaler...but in the drops I have witnessed, many are selling for prices that clearly indicate Massdrop has become the distributor and is reaping the monetary benefits instead of the consumer. Be that as it may, this is America, and you can do as you see fit...I'll pass on this one.

theglobesurferBut the same knife from Bradford directly would be $20-25 more than this drop, and vanadium doesn't help with corrosion resistance, it helps with edge retention and wear resistance.
I think N690 is a basically similar steel in performance, but for whatever reason the basic Guardians are in N690 and the S30V version is an upgrade. It's not an upgrade simply because it's a better steel, it's an upgrade because they don't make that many in S30V.
If it were about simple cost or steel performance than the M390 ones wouldn't be ten bucks cheaper than the S30V run.
And I bought a second set of scales a few months after I got the Guardian 3, I wanted one for a couple of years and figured the full flat ground M390 drop was the way to go.

theglobesurferWhilst I have no interest in this drop at this price, I'm somewhat confused by your posts, are you suggesting that the G4 with uncoated N690 and slab frag micarta is the "same thing" as this drops G4 with coated S30V and contoured micarta? Or have you found the exact same combination as this drop is offering, for $75 less?, in which case can you please provide a link for everyones benefit, MD often renegotiate pricing based on us finding a better price elsewhere.

JimmyPNo one suggested the two different knives were the same thing Jimmy, sorry you are confused. We were simply comparing benefits of both versions, and my personal opinion is clear that MD doesn't always extend the best or even favorable price on many items. This drop for certain, and many others as well. A simple Internet search will reveal this revelation... Go ahead, give it a try!

theglobesurferThat isn't true, you suggested that this knife is priced $75.00 higher than MSRP, while ignoring that the knife you are looking at is a different knife in a cheaper steel than this one, with cheaper handles to boot.
You are being purposefully obtuse and it isn't cute.

OmniseedSeriously omniseed, it seems a bit asinine that you have nothing better to do with your time. Re-read my initial remark and you will discover I made no such reference about this knife being $75 more than MSRP. What I did say, was why pay $75 more for the same thing somewhere else. MD is not the ultimate best price...that was my point. By all means, stay here and buy to your hearts delight and continue to annoy people with your senseless and arbitrary interpretation of reality... I have better things to attend to.
