OpenFOAMTo be able to experience what tubes sound like, with a second tube to play with, for under $100, I wouldn't call that crap. Listen, this is an opportunity. Tube Amps are expensive because of all the issues people are listing. I notice a few people have actually gotten an Amp that works for them right out of the gate. If you need amp immediately and money is real tight, don't buy this one. You want no issues, get ready to spend at a minimum $150, tubes over $300. I bought an 02 design for just under $200, and its at the bottom of a drawer because I had issues even with that one, albeit I am hard on hardware. You want to learn a little something, pull the trigger and buy it already. Instead of whining on this board, ask some questions to get the thing working. Go to radio shack and ask them to set you up with a cheap soldering iron, solder, paste and 1 or 2 little tools. Buy a couple clip wires. I would immediately ground the thing like someone just above me mentioned, a floating ground is never a good thing (hey now you know what a floating ground means.....) This is a good board for questions, or go to and they layout a 100 other sources of information: http://www.dailyaudiophile.com/ I like audioholics , they are a mature group and pretty friendly. If you can afford it, buy it. Learn something about hardware. Learn something about sound, you can't really understand the seductive nature of tubes by reading about them. Cheers
