The specification state that the liner is titanium. A magnet is strongly attracted to the the liner, which would indicate that it is not titanium, which would make the knife lighter and it is a specification. Why is it not titanium as specified?

jamato8Good catch. I tried mine and the strong magnet exerted a strong pull for the handle on either side. I tried it on the handle of my Spyderco Southard and there were no pull on the handle which indicated true titanium material.
Perhaps it was a mislabel for this G10 Caliber model since the price is relatively cheaper than the other Caliber model. Would like to hear from Massdrop regarding the true material used for the liner in this Caliber model.
Thanks for the discovery. Nevertheless, regardless of the true material used for the liner, it is still a very well-made knife.

jamato8Magnet test on my end revealed the same- strong attraction. Reviewing the specifications of this drop it does indeed state "Titanium liner".... Realizing that the description does not reflect the knife I thought I was purchasing disappoints me. I too would appreciate an explanation that might explain the discrepancy or that re-writes the laws of physics to address the magnets attraction to titanium. The Brous Caliber remains a quality piece of craftsmanship.. It is light weight as is but with this revelation, not the deal as originally thought.

Ukalumni93Ever since I received my McGinnis knife yesterday, it dawned on me that the reason I couldn't fire this G10 Brous Caliber "like a bullet" using only the index finger on the flipper button is probably because of the stainless steel liner. The detent strength is quite weak compared to the McGinnis titanium framelock. The McGinnis titanium framelock has such a strong detent that by the time I pushed thru the resistance, the blade fired out like a rocket.
My bet is that the Caliber with the true titanium liner has a stronger detent such that when you push thru the resistance, the blade fires out "like a bullet" (I read somewhere that how Caliber got its name).
Since the MSRP price for this G10 version is only $250 compared to the other Caliber model that costed $500+, I'm thinking that we are getting what we paid for. And I thought I was getting a great deal here. Thus, I agree with you that we are not getting the "deal" as originally thought.

dtw898Great catch guys. Pretty upsetting that this could happen. Probably was miscomunication between Brous and MD. With that said, this is something that would have kept plenty of us knife enthusiast from buying this drop. The Titanium Liner was one of the main reasons i went forward with this purchase. I would be happy with a simple acknowladgement from MD with explenation. The Caliber is still a great knife but i knew something just felt off when comparing it to my other titanium folders. i feel the price is "fair" for what we got even if it is stainless, but its definitely not a great discount like we thought it was. Ill be pretty dissapointed if I find out Brous or MD knowingly scammed us into purchasing with false advertising...

RyanGmanWow, I'm glad I didn't bite. I was eyeing the carbon fiber Caliber with lust since I don't have a flipper knife yet, and almost jumped on this drop due to the lower price point.
Thanks for the information, dtw, Ryan, Ukalumni -- guess I'll have to save up for the carbon fiber Caliber if I want the best flipping action.

ahn_anonThey offered a 20 dollar refund, to Massdrop but I want a refund to the credit card I used. This was too obvious to be just an oversight regarding the liner. One reason I bought this was for the lighter weight and preference for the titanium liner.
