Man I don't usually come look at knife drops, but what makes this knife so special to give it an MSRP of $480? I mean even at the max isn't carbon fiber only $20/lb?

bubblyYou're not paying for just the materials, you don't value a Ferrari by the cost of the metal and plastic it's made of, you're paying for the design and the work that goes into making it. These knives are produced in small quantities and put together by hand. Combined with the design and materials, you have a knife that will last you years with proper care and will outperform many cheaper knives.

bubblyIt's a custom knife hand made in small quantities, D2 steel is fairly high end, and the handle is full carbon fiber from what it looks like, unlike some other knives like the Sage.

Paradigm84Normally this would be the case as I am a collector of knives that make people say "Why do you spend so much money on knives?", but I have bought this knife before and wasn't too thrilled by the fit and finish for the money I was paying. These were supposed to be a 500 piece limited run which has now become a 1000 piece run (even though the certificate still says out of 500. Mine was 668/500...." The point is that I have paid less money on knives that have had better fit and finish, with backspacers that lined up with the frame of the knives and liners that were actually finished and not raw machined with a half-hearted effort to clean them up. I personally think Jason charges way too much money for the product he provides but I can attest that the flipping action is extremely nice if that is all you are looking for in a knife. Also to note the Strifes after the first 500 have a solid G10 backspacer and not the sandwich G10 and Titanium backspacer present on the first 500, just a heads up so you're not disappointed in that regard, I know I was.

cooperredThese knives are not custom and are mid techs at best as the materials are all pre-cut for him, I dont even know if he still grinds the blades himself like the original reloaders as I find it hard to believe he can hand grind these blades and churn out as many as he does. The most that I know he does is just putting the knives together, setting the lock and setting the detent, which dont get me wrong is a skill in itself and is fairly hard to do. It's just not enough work to warrant the title of a "custom knife"

fluid_motionMy comment was more to address the general argument of why knives can cost so much. I haven't handled this specific Brous before, but I have a Silent Soldier and the fit and finish is excellent. As for the numbering, Brous has done that a few times so far as far as I'm aware, I'm guessing he releases the initial run to gauge the interest in the design. Then after he's done that, he can produce more or start working on variants, like he did with the Silent Soldier and VR-71. I personally think this price makes more sense than the $480+ the Strifes originally went for.
