Bulova Accutron II Surveyor Watch

Introduced in 2014, Bulova’s Accutron II pays tribute to the original Accutron series of the 1960s, which featured a revolutionary tuning fork movement that was used in NASA spacecraft of the era. You won’t find the Accutron II Surveyor in any spacecraft today, but the watch is nonetheless equipped with another revolutionary timekeeping mechanism: UHF, which stands for Ultra High Frequency. This quartz movement vibrates at 262 kilohertz, which is eight times faster than a standard two-prong quartz crystal. Designed to provide a smooth-sweeping second hand, it’s not only completely silent but also hyper-accurate.

As an homage to its predecessor, the Accutron II Surveyor features a tuning fork logo at the 12 o’clock position, while another tuning fork forms the bottom of the seconds hand. The dial is also adorned with applied hour markers and a cork-shaped date window at 6 o’clock. For easy legibility in low light, the sword-style hands are lumed. And while the dial is largely unadorned, the 41.3-millimeter case features a slight cushion shape, with a domed crystal and a crown just off the 4 o’clock position, giving the watch a touch of character.
