Now I understand the technology behind it and it's a fantastic design in and out, and the sweep sure is beautiful to watch. But is it worth it when you can get some decent automatics at this price point?

JimHarrisDepends on why you want an automatic. I personally like automatics (and some hybrids) due to the smooth sweep of the seconds hand and the fact that you don't have to replace a battery. This watch has a sweeping seconds hand as smooth or smoother than basically any automatic you'll find under $10k. (Barring some nice Seiko hybrids)
Quartz watches (and some hybrids) have much better accuracy than automatics, and that accuracy is constant for the most part; it doesn't change depending on the orientation of the watch, or how tightly wound the mainspring stays like an automatic. They also tend to be more durable and are less affected by strong magnetic fields. They don't require costly maintenance every couple years, and their power supplies don't run out after just a day or two off your wrist. Some quartz watches even have the feature that you don't need to replace the battery due to being fueled by solar power or an automatic winding component similar to mechanical automatics.
Of course, if you prefer mechanical watches just for the sake of snobbery, and not for the actual technical features, I'm not sure any amount of logic will convince you otherwise. If not, I hope this helped.
On a somewhat related note, hopefully, sometime not too far in the future, Citizen will finally decide to combine their Eco-Drive and Precisionist tech into one watch. :3
