What would our food be without spices? They’re the key to so many dishes around the world, which is why this drop comes with six exotic varieties from the farthest reaches of the globe Read More
Any chance we can substitute one or two of the spices in the set for others that Burlap and Barrel makes? I saw the ginger, silk chili, and yellow cardamom on their website and would have loved for them to be part of the collection here.
Just got my shipment and one of the jars arrived broken. Expect to have one broken as packaging was poor. There was enough space for the inside box to partially open and have the jars roll around. I could tell the jar broke from hitting another one as the lid of the other jar is dented.
AddisonTOh no, so sorry to hear that! Thanks for letting us know - we'll send you a replacement set ASAP, just let me know which jars were damaged - hit me up at ori@burlapandbarrel.com. I'm going to look into ways to improve our packaging to keep the glass jars safe.
Just my 2 cents, for future spice bundles it'd be nice if there were spices you wouldn't find in a regular western supermarket i.e. tumeric/cardamom/paprika/cinnamon because I'm sure everyone's pantries are already stocked with those. Spices like berber and mitmita with maybe a little card with an explanation on what it is and how to use it might be a little more suitable. Not to be too negative because I do support getting other people to start using more spices when they cook.
LargemcchickenmealThanks for the feedback. We could work with the Massdrop team to see if we can do something with our more exotic spices. We focus on selling whole spices, but have some that you won’t find elsewhere like cured sumac, urfa chili, yellow cardamom, wild red juniper berries, and more!
Whenever I have gotten spice sets in the past, there were always some that I don't use much or at all, and then they just expire. But this set would be a really great fit for the types of food I make in my kitchen.. I think I would actually use them all.
I'm sure it's a little different for everyone. A lot of these were spices that I didn't already have in my kitchen but could easily be used to try new recipes within flavor palettes that I know I like. For the spices that I did already have, like the turmeric, the difference in quality was definitely noticeable and reason enough to repurchase (for me). Here are a couple meals I made with no recipes, but just having fun with exploring the spices I got in this set. To each their own, you know?
jeaninesThat sure looks good :) Sorry about my little rant, I didn't mean to come off quite so snarky ;) I just get all riled up when companies do this to increase sales.
PSA for buyers "ayurvedic turmeric" is not a thing - it's just turmeric. Ayurveda is just a form of herbal medicine - it's not a variety of turmeric not does it make turmeric any better by calling it this.
For spices this expensive, a better explanation of provenance/source should be there in my opinion. The cardamom looks extremely white for example - and bright green is more indicative of higher quality.
