Product Description
Inspired by the balisong butterfly knife, the Butterfly Key packs two functions into one solidly built, comfortably sized tool. It holds a key blank where you might otherwise find a blade, and also functions as a fun fidget toy Read More
This is my second in a row mass drop that is disappointing. Last was the rama spinner.
This thing is loose and janky as anything I've ever handled. I am sorry I joined the drop, and I don't think I'll both having the key cut as I don't want my most important key (seems like what this was made for) tethered on an item that feels like it may break at any time.
If I had handled this prior to purchase i would never have purchased. I've never seen a butterfly knife this poorly put together and loose, and I have a lot of really cheap ones. Really glad this does not have an actual blade inside.
Thanks for your reply. While I appreciate that there are over 800 key blanks, this drop was for 3 different kinds if I recall correctly? I expect that you'd make it work well with what was offered or else temper expectations accordingly.
I'll be in touch for an RMA shortly.
offbyoneSince there were some hiccups in manufacturing, my production arrived late. I had about 24 hours to assemble all orders and ship them out. At the time, I did not know the rattling would be a concern, I also had no solution for this matter to apply. Since the last few days I worked on a solution which eliminates the gap and rattle all together.

Also the tension pins used will soon be stainless steel.
Products shipped from now on will have this implementation applied. Is there anything else that made you unhappy? like mentioned before, The batch you received was from the first production and my goal is to make improvements and produce a good product.
Thank you
Joseph
Not gonna lie, this thing is kind of a disappointment. I have a few butterflys and have had some super cheap ones in the past but this one takes the cake. This thing is super noisy, has about a full mm or two of clearance so the key sways and I have no faith in those shims. This was a gift but actually a little embarrassed to even be associated with it, so probably won't end up giving it out since it looks like a grade 7 shop project.
On a plus side the handles are nice and the lock up is tight, but the key rattles regardless because it's so loose. Use of the words "solidly built" and Olivia comparing this against "cheap" balis and alluding that this is anything but is misleading at best.
kupoHi Kupo!
Thank you for writing. Would you kindly read my reply to offbyone as I believe it also addresses your concern as well.
Thank you and have a great weekend,
Joseph
Hey there,
Would you have a contact email adress for custom orders. I have a reinforced door so my keys are pretty thick and have a rectangle handle. Doubt they would fit default blank sizes.
The gold one does not appear to have a keychain hole on it. Is that just that particular gold one that does not have it or do gold ones not come with a keychain hole?
ShyamPatelNo, it is only a novelty. I can make my flies whistle. This just wobbles. This is a nice toy. A great point for it is that the cover shells protect your pocket from your sharp key. I would think of buying another one if it was cleaned up mechanically.
It does not have any such notice, and I'm not sure why a vehicle key would inherently. Ernest people duplicate their vehicle keys all the time the same way they would a house key if they lose their spare.
As to your second comment do you actually have any basis for why it would work with the available options?
swrobelSelections offered here on Massdrop are for House keys only, However we maybe able to custom a Kawasaki key for you directly when we have rebuilt our website and are taking vehicle key orders.
If these had used screws rather than pins, I would have crawled through broken glass to buy one. As is, I think I'd have a hard time finding someone to cut the key. On top of that it also leaves me unable to fix it if anything ever causes it to fall apart.
I might be able to pop the pins in/out with some of my watchmaking tools and a properly-sized punch, but these look like friction-fit C-pins. If you have to compress the pin while inserting it, it may be a lot harder to deal with than I can handle with out right tools.
Ahh, well that's good to hear. As for any "real locksmith" being able to handle it, I don't doubt you. What I worry about is actually having to pay a locksmith to come out to copy a key (I don't know of any locksmiths in 30+ miles who have a storefront). It is the teenager at Lowe Depot's who I worry can't pull it off. If I can take it apart and hand the blank over to be cut, then put it back together myself with a small hammer and a properly-sized punch, then everything should work out alright.
I'd like to get one of these but this drop doesn't allow international postage, why not open it up since they are able to be sold direct to non us customers on the manufacturers website
