AmarilloPorothe yeti sounds about the same but you can chose 4 different recording types ( cardioid, stereo, omnidirectional, and bidirectional) but this mic is only capable of cardioid and omnidirectional

AmarilloPoroi have owned both and imo the yeti is the better mic. this one is decent but the yeti sounds a bit better and offers far more ways to use the mic. if you watch ebay you can find them under 100$ or sometimes on amazon. the other one to look at if you only need Cardioid pattern imo the best usb mic out there is the se electronics x1 usb. it has 24bit 192khz, headphone jack, low cut, 10db pad etc. you can find them brand new on amazon or ebay for 99$. that one uses a MUCH larger 1" capsule and sounds honestly just as good as the actual xlr version of the same mic. for the price its selling for right now it cant be beat. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00JMIKVIC/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new use kellards as the seller they are legit i have bought 2 of the se x1's from them and they are authorized. if you prefer ebay this is actually kellards under a different name same price http://www.ebay.com/itm/sE-Electronics-sE-X1-USB-Large-Diaphragm-Condenser-USB-Microphone-/192079236033? the only drawback i see is the se x1 doesnt have a built in desktop stand. but they are really cheap.

mastershakeI agree, I bought a blue yeti last week for $75 on eBay because "the sound quality was poor" and when I received it I noticed immediately the gain was set to 100%, which will make almost any mic sound distorted and bad. Turned it down to about 30% and it has pretty good sound. I use it when I game because it has a nice stand and out don't need to use a mixing board or have any hassles like that when gaming or using skype/discord. Just plug it in and start talking. It is quite common to find them around $80 in like new condition on eBay, some around 40-50 if the headphone jack doesn't work (even though you could then just plug it into your computer I would rather pay the bit extra to get one fully functional.)

AmarilloPoroYeti is defacto for the work. Why substitute.
