These discussions seem fairly dire about the confidence and quality surrounding the E-100S. Has anyone bothered to reach out to CAD directly to find out what is going on?
I just wrote to them, so I'll see what they say. I'll check back and update this post with more information.

A representative promptly wrote back and assured me that CAD is aware of the massdrop sale, and that the microphones sent out are definitely *not* refurbs. He further added that each microphone is hand-assembled and, as such, will impart minor differences between units. No word on blemishes and imperfections. He further added that each microphone comes with a 5 year warranty which they will honor if any product isn't up to snuff.
For those who are unhappy, I recommend contacting CAD directly. I personally am going to roll the dice on this and see what comes of it. Worst case, I just have to return it.

jamoore84Thanks a LOT for the report – reassuring to hear a firsthand report of contact and assurances. Too bad the quality control issues are prevalent enough that it feels like rolling the dice, but I did the same. Fingers crossed on the self-noise issues. Will report here after testing.
