Another cable question, probably a stupid one: If the rumors are true and the iPhone 7 ditches the 3.5 mm audio port all together and goes with Bluetooth and Lightning only, could/would someone make an MMCX-to-Lightning cable? Such a thing would require a DAC, right? So then it would more be a breakout box or just a small DAC, and would be stupidly expensive or cumbersome, we'd just be better off using a normal portable DAC, yeah?
I'm just making sure my understanding is correct. I'm going to hate not being able to just plug in all my standard headphones directly.
patpolkThat's right, if the rumor is true, then Apple will likely sell a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter that include a small DAC. In that case, yeah, you'll probably better off getting portable DAC which could also improve sound quality. That said, there isn't many portable DAC that is certified to use Apple Lightning connector yet, most DAC will work with iPhone but require CCK (Camera Connection Kit) and will be too cumbersome to take around. There is also an alternative DAC that connected to Bluetooth, one example being Audio Technica AT-PHA50BT.
