MeringoTo be fair, lots of companies use that line including Ford with the new F150, I've been giving my buddies that work at Ford a bunch of crap for that since the commercials came out. It reminds me of Saab's "born from jets" ads from way back when... the reality is that I'll take an automotive engineer or manufacturing process over aerospace any day without question. Aerospace is great at making awesome machines that are capable of doing some amazing stuff, but they can't make two parts the same if there lives depending on it. This is why in recent years they've been looking to Detroit and working toward adapting the automotive manufacturing processes. If your Saab was built like an airplane you'd get pretty frustrated when you found out that any time you replace a part it's most likely going to need to be modified to fit properly... and part delivery can take a few weeks. Oh, and it's going to cost $10,000.

egoodsI hear you. It's in lots of industries. We just need to encourage people to start calling these companies out, and to not be uber angry at those who do. If we don't, fanboys are created and misinformation spreads like wildfire. If we do, products make better improvments, faster.

egoodsYeah the marketing nonsense irritates me too. 7000series could have some benefits, a lot more than 7075, 7005 and 7045 are very common, there are others but those are just what I've worked personally. It can be harder to work (not always) but it is easier to heat treat and some properties may suit over the 6000series alloys. I doubt an iem would see significant benefit of heattreat in fairness, cables would die long before housings failed in most circumstances. I was interested until read a lot of "fun" sound sig in comments. If I could get something between my Vsonic gr07's (which these look a lot like in shape/size/overear cable) and srh1540 cans in iem form factor I'd be happy, andromedas seem close but could get customs for that price.

egoodsI know what you mean, every time I hear "gaming keyboard" or something along those lines it makes me cringe. Like don't be an idiot, you can game with any keyboard.

As someone who works in manufacturing (including in the aerospace industry) it's really irritating when I hear companies tout their use of "aircraft-grade aluminum". That's a nonsensical measure of quality... it's like saying "house-grade wood" or "Building-grade steel". They're likely referring to 6061 grade aluminum, which is used not only in aerospace but basically everywhere, it's not an exotic metal, it's not some super aluminum made with unicorn tears, it's more because of it's easy to work with in various manufacturing processes, has corrosion resistance, and has good structural rigidity. Nothing "special" about it.
Basically, it's marketing mumbo-jumbo and it irritates me. You can most certainly get poor quality "aircraft-grade aluminum" (6061... as we established earlier), just like you can get poor quality "housing building-grade lumber"... why not give some actual useful information instead? Like "high strength, corrosion resistant, 6061 aluminum" you can add more descriptors like "heat treated". Hell it has a failure point of 40,000psi... that sounds neat too toss that in. But stop using the fact that it's also on airplanes (and the back of my phone, the chair I'm sitting in, the PC case next to me, the monitor bezel I'm looking at... this is just stuff I can see in the room I'm currently in).
Alright, I'll jump down from my soapbox and leave my rant there. Oh, and I just might buy a pair of these... I've been looking for new earbuds :)
EDIT: A coworker just reminded me that for some structural parts that flex on aircraft they use 7075 aluminum... which can be a serious pain to machine or work with (but offers good flexibility and tensile strength). If they're using 7075 for these earbuds... that's really dumb, they're making the manufacturing needlessly harder, so my point stands.
