I couldn't resist and got one too... The price of this lens is the same as an used lens here in Canada.

AlbertCADid you figure out if this actually has a Canon Warranty and if a receipt from an authorized dealer was provided?

jamato8I see that, but I'm pretty sure Massdrop isn't a "authorized Canon Dealer" for that warranty to be legit. There are several other threads saying this could be an issue.

JaysunThis shows how sketchy these U.S. warranty photo drops are. Not only is the warranty dubious at best, but you are trying to conceal the vendor as well, obviously to protect them from getting in trouble with the manufacturer. It's only a matter of time until someone rats out the dealer.
I will add though, that the price on this lens was very good on the most recent drop. If I shot Canon I probably would have bought it on price alone, regardless of the warranty. I just think it's unfortunate that Massdrop keeps misleading customers about the warranty.

jeremy205100I had to send my lens in for warranty repair. Canon has charged me for the repair and when I questioned it, they asked for a receipt. They have had my Mass drop receipt for over a week and still have not issued a refund for the repair. I this repair is not under warranty has the terms of the Mass drop been violated?

mtome@Jaysun, do you have anything to say to this person? We have been telling you for over a month that the warranty wouldn't be valid. It seems we were correct, despite all of your "reassurances".
mtome, many of us have been warning customers (and Massdrop) that the warranty would not be valid. In order to have a valid U.S. warranty, you need a receipt from an authorized dealer, which Massdrop does not provide. You should contact Massdrop support, but I don't know what they can or will do for you.

mtomeYou can read more about this "issue" here. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/sigma-150-600mm-5-6-3-contemporary-dg-os-hsm-lens/talk/1930521?utm_source=linkshare&referer=T3XNMA The drop is for a Sigma lens, but Nikon, Canon and Sigma all have similar warranty policies so the issue is the same.

mtomeCaden from Massdrop assured me that if the drop said it was covered by a US warranty then it would be honored. I didn't end up purchasing the lens because I went a different route for now, but I would like to buy this one in the future. If I were you I'd send the bill to mass drop for the repairs if they promised warranty coverage for you. That is fraudulent if they were selling this lens with a US Warranty, but in reality it isn't honored. Maybe you can reach out to the vendor and ask for a receipt? Do the right thing Massdrop...

mtomeThis is what we've been trying to tell people for months.. (and have been criticized in some cases). There is NO warranty for either Canon or Sigma (can't speak for Nikon) without the AUTHORIZED DEALER's receipt.. No exceptions, No "dealer will register" garbage...
This is now bordering on fraud.. and those affected should be all over Massdrop because of it...

JaySCTUpdate: MassDrop has asked for my repair receipt and has offered to reimburse me while waiting for the vendor receipt. I have mixed opinions on this which I stated in my response back to them. It seems they are trying to placate me while sweeping the bigger issue under the rug. Yes, I'm getting reimbursed, but no, there is still no proof of warranty being honored.

mtomemtome,
First and foremost, I'm sorry you're having to go through this. This was going to show up and happen at some point. :-( I don't think your emotions should be mixed. Them reimbursing you, in essence, should never had to occur because it was supposed to be warranted. I'd also make sure I had their check in the bank before going ahead with Canon. You should have gotten a quote for repairs from Canon that should absolutely be good enough for Massdrop to pay you to have the repair done.
That still leaves you in a lurch with no dealer receipt. I wouldn't hold my breath for that vendor receipt either. By exposing the dealer, that dealer will now be identified by Canon USA as someone who broke their contract for being an authorized dealer. I'd still push, and you repair will be covered by Canon for some period (as all repairs are). I can tell you, as a Canon Pro, that their repair service (I prefer the Edison NJ facility) that they will make sure it's done and done right, so take some solace there.
This is blowing up on Massdrop and they knew up front that these had no USA warranty. All they had to do was say up front that these were grey market purchases and let the buyer decide. Stick to your demands, but expect some push back still. :-(

To make matters more confusing, Jaysun has now committed in the post I am linking below to include an authorized dealer receipt "if it is necessary" for a valid USA warranty. This is vague language, but it seems that he has committed to including the receipts in future USA warranty drops. Otherwise, this is now definitely becoming fraud. I share JaySCT's skepticism that they will actually provide the receipts, as the dealer will soon be reported by someone and stop doing these drops. Nevertheless, I am curiously watching to see what happens next. This has been entertaining to watch, although I would be more frustrated if I had actually bought one of these USA warranty drops.

JaySCTThey are now saying the lens has a US warranty. If these are indeed gray market then the price goes from being decently competitive with discount retailers to being about $500 higher than gray market outlets. I personally don’t have the guts to go gray market at this price point.
