Product Description
A great addition to any camera bag, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens delivers fast, accurate autofocus for low-light and night photography, with a lightweight, easy-to-use design you’ll want to take everywhere you go. The f/1.4 maximum aperture can easily produce bokeh and shallow depth-of-field focus, while two high-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics minimize astigmatism Read More
I've now signed up for this lens twice. Both times I got notice that the order was delayed, then after that eventually got a cancellation notice. After the first one the lens was listed again two weeks after. So I've bought this twice and gotten it 0 times.
Has this happened to anyone else?
This was my first lens, the one that made my jaw drop and told me this was a hobby for me; it also became my least used lens because other focal lengths make more sense for what I shoot on APS-C. Since I'd heard of its fragile AF, I've treated it with special care and kept a hood on at all times; still works perfectly, performs great starting at f1.8, with a lot more experience I accept it at f1.4 for what it is, a special look, not sharpness, a special brush with a quirk if you will.
Love this lens but I already had to send it for repairs in a very short lifetime of little over a year. Good thing it was under warranty and Canon repaired it free of charge. I just had to pay to ship it there. Amazing lens. If you're on the fence between this and the 1.8, get the 1.4. worth every extra penny. Faster focus, wider aperture which means easier night shots at faster shutter speed and overall crisper image. If like to get my hands on an IS one day.
shyamswamiTrue. Do you have any references to endlessgadget being a safe site? I don't find any legitimate references. Probably a very new company which is normal for sites that sell but don't deliver, then change sites and start over. Might be the next B&H Photo but I will let you decide. Other then that, their low price means little to me.
The 50mm EF 1.8 STM is so good for so much less. Great bokeh, super fast/quiet STM AF, great in low light. I've been so happy with that lens; I would make the same purchase over and over. For only 2/3 stop, I don't think the 1.4 is worth it.
Been FF for a bit over 6yrs and originally got my 1.8 probably 12yrs ago I think (hence why I forget about the STM version.) Went from the original Digital Rebel to the 50D to the 5DMKII... haven't had the urge to replace the MKII yet, but some of the newer focus tech tempts me from time to time, haha.
As an aside, mirrorless is actually my biggest temptation as of late. I typically carry two cameras when hiking (I still have my first Rebel but converted for IR) and the idea of having a smaller body is super tempting. What holds me back most is my investment I've put into Canon lenses and Canon's lack of a competitive mirrorless camera! They make adapters, but I've heard auto focus is hit and miss in those instances. So we'll see

Once again we're here. The USA Warranty means nothing without a Canon Authorized dealer receipt. If you have any doubt about this comment please call Canon to verify it. Massdrop is not an authorized dealer.
JaySCT You are so right. I have raised this issue in the past about the more price tickets such as the cameras offered by Massdrop. Of concern is that Massdrop refuses to acknowledge that these items will not be covered w/a Canon warranty. I have talked to Canon directly and repeatedly was advised, as you have also pointed out, that Canon will not offer warranty services for product bought from non-authorized dealers (making this a grey market purchase regardless what Massdrop wants to believe). In fact, if anything breaks and the buyer would turn in their item for a warranty repair offered by anybody else than Canon, Canon (if they find out about such repair) won't touch that item for any repair as they do not want to be held accountable for a possible mess a non-Canon repair has caused (that is per Canon). The warranty offered by Massdrop seems like a 3rd party shop that Massdrop has hired. If those guys go belly up, you'll be again on your own w/out warranty. I think its wiser to pay a few extra bucks and purchase from a reputable and authorized dealer such as B&H who sell the lens for $329 right now (you'll get it within a few days) and not have oodles of frustration down the road.
i like the creamy bokeh of it and how the apeture for me is just right put it on a full frame and it will be amazing but i feel like if they make an L series f 1.4 ill buy it but for this price snatch it
