Some people say this is one of the optically worst lenses Canon has ever made.

I second Midshipmen's comments. It's terrible. I gave mine away, apologizing the entire time. It is actually far worse than the kit lenses supplied with new cameras, and I'm a little shocked that Canon still makes this lens--their reputation stands to suffer. The only people who would buy this lens have APS-C sized sensor cameras (the EOS Rebel / TX / X0D / 7D lines). But for a little bit more (or about the same on eBay), you can get the far, far superior EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens (not the STM version). I like Massdrop and look forward to when they offer the Sigma 24mm f/1.4.
But, again, do not buy this lens.

I mean, it is a $200 75-300 lens. I wouldn't expect too much from it. It is probably on par with the quality of the starter lens that comes with most cameras nowadays.

Please stay away from this lens...
I've had one for years, and it is the softest lens I have ever come across. Plastic not-so-fantastic.
