How does the 5D Mark III hold up against some of the new mirrorless cameras, like Sony A7II?

d-levinSony A7II does have better ISO capabilities, could record 4K and includes 5 axis in-camera stabilisation. 5D Mark III however, is an industry staple with far more numerous (and arguably cheaper) lenses available with a considerably cheaper price tag. 5D Mark III is also quite a bit heavier than A7II but some prefer the weightiness of Mark III to A7II. To each their own?
If you look at pure specs, the Sony A7II is categorically a better camera but realistically you could make do with either cameras - your vision makes the shot, not the camera. If you are a professional looking to jump boats - personally I'd recommend switching lens first and tweaking workflow first as opposed to diving in with a new camera body.

d-levinIt depends on what you want. For casual use go A7ii. If you are after reliability and confidence in assignments, 5D4 is obvious choice.
When choosing digital bodies, think about functionality and hardware performance (not cmos, but stuff like AF and button response speed etc. ). Bodies don't last long but your lens do. You are building a system surrounding lens to squeeze juice from your lens.

Kris2014 referred to A7ii, not A7Rii. The former is significantly cheaper than the latter. If I could swing it I'd pick Rii over ii any day ;-)

d-levinIf you are not after hardware performance and additional features a7ii will suffice. 7r2 is indeed interest camera but high pixel count is not always handy. The difference in price can be spent on a good lens.

d-levinit doesnt. This is a old body and for this price Id highly suggest getting a canon eos R instead. Or go sony a7iii. This comera body is essentially 2 generations old at this point. Not sure how they found a stock of new ones.
