As a first camera, can anyone attest to this package being a good deal?

DaCoOpBotsIn my opinion this is a really great starterset. You get everything in one package which is very nice when you're a beginner. Mind, you can always get bigger and better gear, but really don't invest (too) much when you're just experimenting and starting out in the dslr world.
With this set of items you can most definitely enjoy taking pictures while walking around in the city, at a party, on your holidays, landscape and even some nature photography. With those two lenses you're pretty much covered.
Edit: PLUS the addition of the filters and tripods makes it a fine package.
I just hope the shipping rates are better for you, for me it's €55 :S

DaCoOpBotsThe T5i body is a very good first DSLR. It has enough flexibility to allow creativity and learning while quite possibly being as much as you'll ever need unless you get more serious. As far as the lenses go, I would choose others but these are functional . You are likely to want to purchase other glass if you get serious before considering a different body.

YaakovThanks. Adding, maybe, around 100-300$ more, what would be the next candidate? And what would be in the best all-arounder under 1000$/€? Any tips please?

EARNEST0Addressing only Canon (there are other options, and others may be able to help) I would choose the 70D body, and one good lens to start, like decent f/4 zoom.

DaCoOpBotsFolks interested in comparing cameras might want to check out sites such as www.dpreview.com There's a massive amount of information on the web. During the holiday shopping season camera manufacturers traditionally market kits such as this one. I cannot really address the merits of this kit, I have gone back to film, for my professional work I do not like the digital look.
