Saw this same kit at Costco last evening (4/23/19) for $549. Seems Canon isn't giving any deals to Massdrop these days, but are certainly giving the big box stores a break.. Guess i'm off to Costco, as i'd been holding out for a Massdrop "deal".

I own this camera and the included lens is very basic but will do you good for the time being. This is a photo I took using this camera and lens.

I was amazed and astounded to see that MD actually has gone to the trouble to have this warrantied to the purchaser. Fantastic job, guys.

Anyone know if there is a battery grip available for this model? I can't seem to find one on the Canon web site.

seanhobbsNo ( official ) battery grip available. The T7i doesn't have the contacts for the controls. But you can find aftermarket ones that just add the extra battery capacity and some with wired controls.

A few weeks ago, I joined the body-only drop. I just want you to guys know that the only difference is that this drop has the 18-55mm kit lens. A $200 difference for a kit lens.

KiddomikeThe 800D/t7i "body only" drop was a gray market import with no warranty (if I remember correctly). For the extra $200, your getting an "ok" lens with a full 1 year Canon warranty.

Massdrop needs more cameras...
the 18-55mm is a garbage lens. It would be great if Massdrop could put together a bundle of a Canon T series and one of it's decent cheap primes like the 50mm f1.8 or 40mm f2.8. Novice photogs think that they want a zoom. Because it's fun to crank the zoom ring and go woowoawoo. Unless you are getting a Sigma Art, or Canon L, pretty much all the zooms are crap. Primes (fixed focal length lenses as opposed to zooms which have a range like the 18-55) give you more solid looking images with better contrast and color. They also force you to move your ass around to compose the shot instead of zooming in and out until it fits. Once you get in the habit of using primes, it's hard to go back to zooms. Also, primes are generally 'faster'. Notice Canon's cheapest prime, the 50mm 1.8 is 4 or 5 stops faster than the 18-55. This allows you to get better indoor and night time shots.

I don't remember the price of this drop now, but the refurb version was $600. That was for just the body and accessories, no lenses.

CalaverasgrandeI don't agree with your assessment of this lens as garbage, but I certainly agree with your assessment of fixed vs zoom. I am not too sure that many people who want a good camera pay much attention to this concept. Thank you for pointing this out. I really don't do much photography now. (I wouldn't do any if I didn't have my cell phone.) But when I was doing it regularly, It was several years before I picked up a zoom. They are handy, but they certainly lack the quality produced by a fixed.
