EDIT: Not a problem after all. See my most recent post below.
So the belt arrived fine, but the cobra buckle is extremely difficult to open. I'm familiar with cobra buckles, and have another cobra buckle belt that does not exhibit this behavior. E.g. I know that you can't pull on the buckle's halves while trying to unlock it: it has to be slack. Regardless, the unlocking tabs are extremely difficult to operate to actually disconnect the halves. The tabs seem to stick in the closed/locked position until I wiggle the tongue around to just the right position, and even then the tabs take a LOT of force (compared to my other cobra buckle) to disengage.
Is this a lemon, or am I doing something wrong? Again, I'm familiar with and like cobra buckles, but perhaps there was a design change to make them behave differently. TIA.
CurbySame issue. I have two other buckles that are butter smooth, this one clearly has a problem with one of the sides. If I press on one side, smooth and quiet. The other side is really tough to push in and has this audible crunch as if a spring is grinding against metal. Makes the buckle incredibly hard to open.
CurbyPerhaps we should report the issue as a defect to Massdrop? Getting more visibility on the issue might help us get a solution.
I want to stress that I'm happy with the belt, and I know these guys have had successful drops before. This is probably just a bad batch that made it through QC but I'm hoping for a fix, not a refund.
CurbyFollowing up with info from Sargent: the scuba webbing, when new, is stiff enough to not bend much. This means that it presses against the tongue/male part of the buckle as it peeks through the middle when the buckle is assembled. Firmly pressing the two parts together helps overcome the force from the webbing, and allows for both secure attachment and easy detachment. As the webbing softens over time, it should stop pressing back on the tongue and firm manual pressure should no longer be required. Works like a charm on my belt, and I'm confident it will work for you guys as well.
tl;dr While the belt is new, press the buckle halves together firmly before triggering the release tabs to easily unbuckle.
