Can someone explain me the ADAPTIVE ALPHA kit? R3 profile, with an extra R2 numbers (for what?) and no modifiers R3?

jkaos92It's for those who prefer a uniform profile, like DSA. And it's adaptive because it can be arranged to Dvorak or Colemak without needing the DC kit.

jkaos92There are many SA keysets out there that use uniform R3, so they sell that adaptive kit so you can mix and match Carbon alpha with other sets.

jkaos92As a fellow flat profile fan, I was thinking the same thing. I think we have to make do with the normal ones.

longtran1568This sounds stupid to me. I mean, if you offer a R3 alphas kit, you should also offer at lest modifiers (or at least common modifiers, aka tkl or 104 layout) O.o

Where is the point to sell something that will "work" with another set?

jkaos92The main purpose of the adaptive alphas (as I understand it) in the context of carbon is for the planck set. The planck mods kit allows for uniform or sculpted rows, and then you pick the alphas that match your preference. People were asking for that option during the interest check phase, and t0mb3ry made the set for them (same thing happened with blank alphas).
Basically, any of the sets that don't seem to intuitively fit in to the overall Carbon GB were probably explicitly asked for during the interest check, and with the low MoQs of SP it isn't a big deal to just add them.
EDIT: From the interest check, straight from t0mb3ry: "Well i've talked with jack humbert back in the day and he told me about the preference for an uniform (3333) profile on a planck keyboard. This time i'd like to support this idea and i want still give atleast a support for a default profiled (2343) planck layout. So in order to get an uniform planck you need to get Adaptive Alphas and 40% kit. To get a profiled planck you need to get the standard alphas and 40% kit"

jkaos92Hence the name ADAPTIVE :)
Carbon is originally meant to be a sculpted set, so no reason they would invest in a whole new set of option for uniform R3.

longtran1568Thanks both of you. Sadly, no flat for me I believe there are enough people to reach the moq for flat alphas + modifiers :( Nevermind, rip dream
