Got real excited when I saw that it was an American made button up, but lost all interest when I saw dry clean only... What a shame...

browncoreThanks for catching it, we ought to change that wording. The recommendation is dry clean, but machine wash cold and line dry/gentle cycle actually works fine as well. Just make sure not to torture it on high heat in the dryer and you should be ok.

browncoreSo let me get this straight you're dumb enough to pay $75 for a cotton flannel shirt from NY, but too cheap to have it dry-cleaned? Wait--did I just call you dumb? Okay, that was uncalled for, I apologize. 'Cause maybe you're really a smart guy? Here's the skinny on overpriced and overhyped clothing (mainly knits and cut 'n sewn shirts)--some mfg gets a deal on some batch of fabric because it's know to be ridiculously unstable (shrinkage and colorfast issues), and that stuff is always imported . You probably guessed that because no way you were falling for that cheesy line about "sourced in LA" right? I mean a person may source their cocaine from a guy in West Palm Beach, but he knows it came from Columbia, right?! Okay, back to Brooklyn (which everyone, the world over, knows is the LumberJack capitol of New York, right? NY is full of Lumber Jacks). But I digress--so some guy named Bernie, knows this guy Sol, in LA, who got stuck with load of cloth from Madagascar and is willing to dump it for peanuts if Bernie will pay the freight back to Brooklyn. They make a deal. Next thing you know, Bernie's sister Sarah in DC, whips out a few design sketches on the lid to some pretty good Chinese take-out, and sends it up to Bernie. Bernies pattern-maker Gloria, adds a few details and sends the pattern to over Sol (different Sol), he runs the Cutters who create the piece-goods all the shirts Bernie makes in his Brooklyn factory. Labels and tags are are normally expensive, but Bernie's gets a good deal on those too. Turns out, the double "v v"s in Casavva was actually a "typo" (happened at the label factory in Laos--long story). Initially, Burnie's pissed, but then he figures there is no way in hell the label guy, Dang, can afford to eat the oder, so Bernie offers him thirty cents on the dollar and practically steals the misspelled labels from poor Dang (who's nephew, Pho is no longer employed at Dang's label factory, in Laos). Where were we? Okay, so Bernie's got a bunch of cheap shirts now that he knows would turn into cat-toy stuffing if anyone actually washed them. So, he does what everyone in the industry does now--sews a fancy designer-no-one-ever-heard-of label in the collar and another one that reads: "Dry Clean Only," Bernie then prices the shirts at $150/dozen--knowing he'll discount that price another 15% to the end retailer, if they agree to take the whole load--and who is going to double-keystone them anyway, for upwards of $50 or $60 each--maybe more? All depends on the point of sale packaging they require--that stuff adds cost and bleeds away margin. Or maybe Bernie can find a retailer who can skip all brick and mortar that stuff.? So Bernie gives his Rolodex a little spin and finds the number for that nice girl at Massdrop, and moments later is heard saying: "Maggie, have I got a deal for you!" So if you were unwilling to wash an $11 shirt you bought for $75 --maybe you ain't so dumb after all!

casavvaOh-as if we were taking about one of Jay Gatsby's silk dress shirts as he tossed them in the air to Daisy! It's a damn flannel shirt--buy it a size or two bigger and shrink the shit out it! You think Kurt Cobain and Paul Bunyan spent a lot of time dialing up the Gentle-Cycle, or hang'n around the Dry Cleaner?! If Cassaba shirts can't take a week of real life, buy a damn Carhartt shirt ;- )
