Purchased! I'm in the US. Which step down transformer works for this sort of application?

jerick70Two suggestions. You want to get a dedicated step UP transformer because you need to go from 110 volt/60 hertz to 220 volt/50 hertz system. I would recommend a unit with a toroidal transformer for this application because it gives off less electromagnetic interference (EMI) and is generally more efficient.

tyllCannot be used in the US without power transformer. As previously mentioned, you would need to be outside the US, like somewhere in Europe which has residentail 220 volt/50 hertz power. US residentail is 110 volt/60 hertz and cannot power this unit.

tyllSeriously? It would not work properly. It would not be able to generate the watts it requires. It would be like you are in Germany on a hot summer day and everyone is running cooling appliances and the power suddenly dips. You have a brownout. It is generally a bad thing and not good even temporarily for electronics. But you would be doing it purposefully and potentially for an extended period. So, you just shouldn't do it.

Marco99Ok, thanks for clarifying, I'll get a converter when arrives.

I believe it said that it draws 60 watts of power. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I would get a transformer that was rated for more than 200% of that load. So, probably a 150 watt transformer. As I said before, a toroidal transformer is best for lower EMI. I cannot say specificially works best for this particular unit. I have experience with a couple of different UMI units which you can find on Amazon. They are pretty nice looking. The more expensive models have on and off buttons, fuses and even digital readouts . I always keep mine powered off when I am not using the devices which require the voltage converter.

Yes, that model should work fine. And 230v appliances _should_ work within plus or minus 10 volts and therefore the 220-240v range is exactly right.

The 800w is more than you need, but you definitely have yourself covered. Enjoy! :-)
