Having issues with this N3 turning on over the last month. It will finally go on after pressing the power button for a while. Is this an issue anyone else is having?
Latest firmware is out. Themes now work...

Can someone tell me how to switch the menus to English? It shows English on the Massdrop page so I am assuming this is possible. I can't find anything in the instructions or online.

Nevermind. I thought I had already checked everything but I figured it out.
Got mine for a few days now. I really like the sound of this paired with my Noble X. Has anyone been able to get playlists working? I think their UI is clunky and I'm not able to load .m3u8 or .m3u playlists onto the device.
Received mine today. I'm pretty happy considering the cost. Sound quality is fantastic with my AKG K750 headphones, although I need to crank the volume to 72 in a quiet room to have it loud enough. I could do without the cheap pleather back, but the included silicone case makes up for that. Seriously, if they're gonna do pleather, at least make sure the edges are glued down flat, otherwise it just feels cheap. Love the blue color. Buttons are good and tactile. I like the haptic feedback for the capacitive buttons. The stereo separation is fantastic, among the best I've heard from any player. I'm currently listening to a wide variety of music (24/192, 24/96, 16/44, even some mp3s) and loving every second of it. Couldn't get it to work as a DAC on my Windows 10 PC... not sure what I'm doing wrong there. But I didn't buy it for that feature, so whatever. Looking forward to trying it with bluetooth headphones.
I'm a happy camper!
I appreciate massdrop, but this one is a flop. There was nothing exclusive or beneficial about this drop at all. 4-5 days before this drop shipped the N3 was on Amazon US at the the exact same price. Not only that but without tax and with free 3 day shipping. with massdrop I ended up paying $9 more, shipped 4 days later, and via the the absolute cheapest possible method with a delivery date 9 days from shipment to get from PA to CA. I'm not sure what happened here, but I can't say I'm happy I joined this drop.

You pay taxes based on where the product sale occurs. Nothing changes this month for me in CA. It does not affect what I said, the entire point and draw of this drop was that it was the US "Exclusive" release of the product. As it turns out it was available prior to the drop shipment at the exact same price, and with a normal and modern shipping rate. The whole point of mass drop is that there is a benefit to group buy purchasing. There was no benefit to this one, but we were lead to believe there would be - lead to believe we were getting this before anyone else, and that the MSRP was higher than what we were paying.

Wrong about sales tax: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468512 That's as of April 1st (2 days ago), and it wasn't an April Fool's joke.
The exclusivity of the product was mostly held back due to the slow shipping methods used by Massdrop. Technically we did "buy" it first, but Massdrop takes an eternity to ship stuff.
As for the MSRP, are you really whining because of that $0.01 that it turns out you didn't save?
Just got a notification - it's on the way!
Can't wait for the April shipping date, so I got these from Cayin in China. Paid $159.

Never mind, just saw the date.
When will this be shipped?
Can be delivered to UK when available ? Thank you

Please contact UK local dealer to check available date http://en.cayin.cn/netword/show?c=129&ctype=2&smallid=191&id=13443
I listen to mostly live music. Will this play "gapless"??? Does it have an E.Q. or some tone control in it's software??

The N3 has gapless and 10 band EQ features.
dodgeboy3406
Thanx for the info. guys
Would this plug and play in my car just like an iPod?

Sure he did, he clarified it in a later post. There's a lot of non-tech-savvy people out there who can't precisely explain what they mean on the first try. Stop being a jerk.
GoremanX
Oh., ok. I'm a jerk because I was going off of what was actually said. I'm sorry I couldn't read his mind like you apparently could.
Jerk.
Does this have enough horsepower to run a set of Sennheiser 650s without the need of a separate amp? Thanks!

I'll look for it!!
The C5DAC DAC/Amp has less then half the output of the C5 Headphone amp., for heavy load such as HD650, the C5 will be a better choice. Ideally the C5 works better with a "genius " line out signal but in case of budget constraint, a decent Hi-Fi mobile phone such as V20 can serve the purpose for the moment, or at least as a stepping stone to a DAP as source for C5 down the road.
Here we go again. The blurb for this item claims "support" for music formats up to 32bit/384hHz but the specs claim only 24bit/192kHz. I wish that Massdrop would STOP with the BOGUS ad claims and CHECK before posting. I wonder if ANYONE back there knows that there are laws regarding false advertising in most US states.

I have posted the latest digital capability of N3 DAP on HeadFi, please check it out if that 's the detail that you are looking for. The opening post of HeadFi has mentioned that the content was originally based on the Engineering sample used in CanJam New York (4-5 Feb) with firmware v0.8beta. The data I quoted in the following HeadFi post are based on the production version with firmware v1.0: http://www.head-fi.org/t/833932/coming-soon-cayin-n3-hi-res-dap-with-akm4490-dac-apt-x-bluetooth-and-line-usb-coax-out-for-under-200/315#post_13339117

I am working for Cayin and taking care of oversee marketing function of Cayin Personal Audio products. I hope this will clarified the concerns, I apology if we have caused any confusion due to our early-bird information.
i got 3 days left for the drop. i currently own the ipod classic 6th gen. is this DAP worth getting? i mostly just use my ipod for commuting and hooking it up to my car. how much better would it REALLY be compared to my ipod?
i also have to consider if it's really worth leaving the great UI of the ipod classic and the hassle of resorting all of my music files. (non-bought downloads have such terrible naming on the files sometimes)

I'm saddened no one gave you the correct answer: it depends on what headphones you're using.
SlowCousinPete
Lol. Yeah i figured it also depends on the headphones. I've got the v-moda m100's, so I've got pretty good headphones. Obviously there are better but I'm not made of money here.
How does this fair against fiio x1ii?

how about sound?

I don't have the N3 so I can't compare. You can check out my Head-Fi review of the X1 II at http://www.head-fi.org/products/fiio-x1-ii-high-resolution-lossless-music-player-2nd-generation-silver/reviews/18098. Looking purely at the specs the N3 has a better DAC though the SNR and other specs seem to be a tad lower than the X1 II. However if you are using IEMs and other low-powered devices the difference should not be large, it's more obvious if you are using power hungry large headphones. I know it's not possible but DAPs are best auditioned. As you will see from my review I was happy with the neutrality of AKM DACs but just found it a bit lifeless on my daily commute.
How is the customer support with Cayin? I have Xduoo X3 right now and at 9 months its having issues.( disconnects from the computer while trying to add music, wouldn't turn on for a week) Contacted seller( Tomtop) and Xduoo, no response. ( going on a month now) I'm leaning towards Cowon again( the Plenue D, had the X7, it died after 6 plus years) it's 50.00 more but has a lot longer battery life. I want reliability, not made of money.

All I can say is that support must be better than Xduoo. I had an X3 die after 3 months. Xduoo never honoured the "lifetime warranty" and Tomtop was the same. Will never buy from either again. At least Cayin has a presence on the head-fi forums and seems to be taking feedback and genuinely trying to improve their products.

Cayin started way back in 1993, and we started our venture into Personal Audio in 2013, so far we have maintain very good track record on customer support throughout our history. We interact and follow up with our customers directly on HeadFI forum in past few years and our DAP has been highly regarded in terms of Price Performance and customer support. I can't comment if N3 will outperform the DAP you have mentioned, but we are proud of our customer service and will continue to strive for better support in the future.
Anyone know of an affordable DAP that has an easy to use UI like an ipod/iphone? That's seriuosly the only thing keeping me from letting my iphone 5 go.
Hey guys. I just shot a walk-through video for the N3. I'm leaving the country for a vacation Saturday morning, so the video has very lo-fi production values, lol. But it's better than nothing and will give you an idea of what the N3 is like in action. Hope it helps with your purchasing decision.
To all the morons wining about the 0.1c discount and US only drop, they never learn to read? Read the title and if you did then go back to school and learn to comprehend what 'exclusive launch' means.

While whining learn about plurals and singular you 'dummy'. (also where to use double inverted commas and where single). Hope this would be a lesson for you to stop nit-picking grammar and undermining the whole message next time.
indi_guy
I was adding to your comment. Maybe look up the word "context" in the dictionary next time you are looking up simple words. Hope this is a lesson for you the next time you want to make a condescending comment without coming to terms with your own illiteracy.
It's selling in China now and based on the current exchange rate, it's equal to $159 US dollar. So the price is not bad. My question is how it is compared to Fiio X5. A couple days ago, I saw X5 II was selling as daily deal on B&H for $169 so I think you probably would see this X5 price popping up everywhere soon since the new X5 III is out.
Take it this is another U.S only drop..
there's no savings...bomb drop instead?
What's the song limit on this? I've got a 30,000 song library and a lot of these DAPs won't read or display that many songs.
Carpet_Shark
You don't have any file limit when you use Folder view in N3. If you were to use the Library function (sorting songs into artist and genre etc), we have a file limit of 12,000 titles, I am not sure if the can be enhanced at this stage, I'll keep this in mind in our future firmware review.
Andykong
Thanks for the info!
Can I stream my Spotify/Deezer premium to the N3 via Bluetooth from my IPhone/iPad? I read the comments before postings and the closest question asked about streaming Spotify online to the N3. Am I right to assume that there should be no problem as it will be my iPhone using the Interwebs😜to grab the songs then simply send them OTA to the N3, therefore the N3 has no interaction with the Internet and I should be fine. Thanks in advance for your help, sorry if this was a dumb question.😆 Have a great day everyone.
savage_reborn
Hi - This is Eric from MusicTeck. The answer is YES. Bluetooth is a standardized protocol and it should work fine.
savage_reborn
Yup. It doesn't matter which app you're streaming from. You just connect via Bluetooth and enjoy your tunes 👍
As I look at this and then I'm comparing the Fiio X5 for $80 more.. I'm thinking the Fiio is the better investment.
Thoughts???
RJG1
I think the x5iii goes for about $400. Is it worth it? Maybe but depends on your needs. You may be seeing on older version in the $200 range.
I love the output options for bypassing the internal dac but I see that the cables don't come with. That's fine but does anyone currently sell a usb-c to coax cable or will Cayin be selling one?

Please also be reminded that N3 has USB digital Audio output as well, on top of the coaxial S/PFIF output. The Type C cable should be available as a standard USB Type C accessories pretty soon, it not already.
Andykong
Great news, thanks!
Saving a PENNY from retail price is a pretty lame drop. Come on. Where's the deal Massdrop?
Samjguitar
My understanding is this is currently the only you can get this product in the US, so the added value is availability not discount off of MSRP. I haven't actually seen what the retail price will be once it's more widely available in US (other than under $200).
Anyone know how this compares to the Fiio X3II from a feature set perspective? From what I can tell, this adds bluetooth, but drops any internal storage. Otherwise features are essentially the same (but require different cables/connections for digital out, etc.) Is this correct?
JacobH
Fiio X3 II has no internal storage either and can only handle a 128 gig card
Pmtski45
Thanks. I must have missed that.
